He was relieved of negotiating duties when Pace was GM. I don't know why. Then he was doing them again. Now he's out again. I don't know if we will ever know what the problems were. Maybe he was just getting old and the job probably has changed since Jerry Angelo hired him a long time ago. He and Ted Phillips have been around forever in the front office. Times change. People come and go. Hopefully they will get someone good to replace him.
Sure. It's possible, but from what can see, they are doing an EXCELLENT job on cap. But maybe someone other than Stein is doing it. We will probably never know
Yeah, he had a great reputation from what I've read about the guy. And I agree we will probably never know what happened when he was relieved of his duties when Pace was here or now with Warren. I have to figure they have a reason... don't know if it is a good reason though.

Greg Gabriel is going nuts about this on twitter. Was close to him while working for the Bears.
"Cliff Stein is one of the finest individuals I’ve ever known. No one has more integrity. Outstanding reputation across League. Did 1000x more than just take care of cap. Involved in everything. Why isn’t he there? He’s too good at what he does and some couldn’t handle that!!!
Last thing. Ryan Poles is an excellent GM and person, he has an excellent plan and I firmly believe he will turn this team into a consistent contender. Support what he does. As for the rest of FO leadership, let’s just say create your own opinion
Going forward for a while my account will remain private. I will not post on anything Bears as they aren’t the organization I once worked for. Any comments I have on hirings, signings, trades, picks etc will come in @wcgridiron and GTF on the @barroomnetwork . In short Fvck em!"
Those were 3 tweets he posted shortly before he made his account private so I can't actually post the tweets.

This is troubling if he is saying what I think he is saying. I believe he is saying it is on Warren. I was hoping he was the shining light

Given the timing, I wonder whether he was not agreeing with the numbers for the JJ contract extension.

We don't know the reasons for moving on from Stein. Gabriel doesn't either. Stein was relieved of contract negotiating duties under Pace, then got them back again, and now he is gone. Things usually happen for a reason. We don't know how good (or not good) the reasons were from letting Stein go. Warren strikes me as a guy who is willing to do what is best even if it is not popular. He is a very very intelligent man and undoubtedly knew there would be some fallout to this decision. He still made the decision. So the reason for it must be important in Warren's eyes. Stein and Ted Phillips are family friends who have been around forever. So one thing that I take from this is that Warren does have clout.

The question is not whether Warren has clout, but how is he using it? They may just have incommensurable ideas about managing the finances. In that case, top dog wins.

I've seen a lot of chatter on twitter that Stein was Greg's source on a lot of stuff and now that he's out he won't have any more info. I also wonder if thats why Stein was let go.

If the guy is a leak from inside Halas Hall then yeah, get his ass OUT of there. And something "happened" in the previous regime when he was relieved of his contract negotiating duties when Pace was GM. Sounds like an old "family friend" like Ted Phillips and new President/CEO Warren isn't going to keep the old "status quo" thing going. It also looks like George is giving Warren the clout to clean things up and get this team on track.

Well that makes sense. But what are we gonna do for inside info now? I guess we'll be seeing even more clickbait and MSU stuff everywhere now, not just here.

Gabriel?
His takes have become a joke IMO. Stopped paying attention to his babbling years ago. He's neither connected nor informative.
