I remember back in the day when the GM had to woo an offensive coordinator with a high round pick. It worked out great. The Bears got both Ron Turner AND Cedric Benson.
Going with Roman could indicate a move to keep Fields. I don't know, just spitballing.
I can see that. But it could be that with the move toward all the hybrid WCO/RPO offenses with highly mobile QBs, he could also be a strategic move assuming that most QBs going forward will be in a similar offense style.
Hoge and Jahns today rated Kubrick and Waldron higher than Roman. They are better in the passing game, which is the big need. Bears are already proficient at running.

It's Kubiak. Kubrick was the director of Clockwork Orange.
But I agree. Roman would have been a good get 2 years ago but that ship has sailed. Get an OC who can scheme up a passing attack.

It makes me wonder why they are even interviewing Roman. Flus may have had some influence. I think his coaching philosophy is like Pete Carroll’s. You establish a strong running game, top-5 defense, ball-control passing game. If that’s the identity you want for the Bears, Roman is a good fit.

Puke
I have no interest in that identity. It requires near perfection to work. Trying to reassemble the Legion of Boom or the '85 Bears defense + Marshawn Lynch is a tall task. Even that only won one SB (though it should have been two).
A killer passing attack is far more sustainable in today's NFL.
Poles indicated at the postseason presser that he was gonna be involved in the OC search process. I really hope he tells Flus NO if necessary.
Bears need to step into the 21st century offensively.

My hope is they're just interviewing him to be thorough. He's one of the least desirable OCs as far as I'm concerned.
