Poles won't be the one deciding on Flus

I am hoping and praying that the family lets Warren and Poles just run the team.  Their history (they as the McCaskey family) of any sort of active team management has been abysmal.  All you have to do is answer one, easy question.  How many times has the McCaskey family and their very close associates (meaning Tef Philips, Ernie Accorsi, etc) made a basic hire/fire decision that ended up with some form of long-term success?

For success I would use something purely performance based, like consecutive seasons with playoff runs that go past 1 single payoff game appearance (aka winning at least 1 playoff game in consecutive seasons), multiple SB appearances and winning at least 1 SB.  So, the answer is easy, never.

The only hire/fire decision that the McCaskey family should be making is the President/CEO for football operations. Once they do that, the team chief executive should be allowed to run the team.  That means the GM should be his choice and collectively the two (chief exec and GM) will do everything else, without any interference from the owners.  I know there are other teams who have active ownership that has had success.  But IMO the McCaskey's are basically incompetent at running a football team and shouldn't even try.

I agree with you on what George McCaskey wants.  I've run into him multiple times when the Bears had training camp at Bourbonnais.   And he seems really focused on the Bears winning and also seems genuinely sincere.

But I also see that the family has not terminated their relationship with Ted Philips.  If you look on the Bears website he is listed at #3 under the section "Ownership and Executives" as a "Senior Advisor".  Not saying he is particularly active in any way, just that seeing him listed this prominently gives me something like PTSD flashbacks.

I hope it is more an honorary role as well as a way to compensate him for leaving and still being able to tap him for knowledge if they need him. He is not useless (although most of us like to say so). He has a lot of experience and contacts. He is just football useless. I think Warren is savvy enough politically to be able to get George to go his way even if Teddy is not on board. No way we will ever know the internal workings. We can just have faith in the guys making the decision. I think George wants what we want but has not been able to find people to get it done. A lot of it is his fault since Ted has always been the guy they had to go through. It's different know and we can only hope

if these reports are true on ownership making football decisions I hope Poles has the balls to walk away. Warren too if he is just a face. Maybe then ownership will realize bears fans our next to walk
