Let's hope so. With the family history of valuing personal income over team performance, I can't help but worry about it. I am referencing potential ancient history of Mike McCaskey and the Bears teams in the late 80s.
I'm saying that coaches contracts are always guaranteed. If fired before their term is up, they still get paid. Always been this way.
I'm NOT saying that the owners don't make stupid decisions to keep guys cuz they don't want to pay 2 salaries. I'll bet that happens a lot with George and co. Remember January 2020 when they touted "collaboration" as why they kept Pace & Nagy?
That was a money decision only. No sane manager could possibly have thought that those two clowns were gonna turn things around in one year with Andy Dalton.
So glad we don't take input from many Bear fans. Wanting Justin is continue mediocrity.
Here's the ONLY scenario in which I'm ok with keeping Fields:
Harbaugh is HC Harbaugh wants to give him another year We have 2 1sts banked for 2025 to move on if necessary
In any other scenario, it's time to move on while he still has some trade value. I like Justin too. But personal popularity is not an objective criteria. The objective facts say he's the worst QB in the division and you aren't gonna make the playoffs very often with a 0.200 winning % in division.
I know why you think that. And the point of view is valid if you look at it a certain way. I am still not sure I agree though
My problem is even if you surround him with all pro WR's and TE's. His play style doesn't fit a 4k passer
I'm not sure of that. I think his biggest need is more time right now. Then the talent (WR & TE). I think he will get better with that. Of course just my thought, Wish I could know if I am right.
There are some things that I like about Flus that would make me ok with him sticking around. I like how he's kept the team together through some VERY TOUGH circumstances. You really can't understate the job he's done there and how difficult that can be in the NFL. It's not an easy thing. I thought the defense really improved once he took over and I think he's built a great environment in the locker room that guys clearly want to be a part of and stick with.
HOWEVER, just like I don't believe Detroit will ever win anything of significance with their current HC, I'm not sure Eberflus leads this team to the ultimate promised land. Could I be wrong on that? Sure, but so far he's shown some things with in game management that trouble me. I have my reservations on Harbaugh...I've made that known...but he's a good damn coach. I think this team is very close. I expect them to be contending for a playoff spot next year. I think he could bring them to the promised land. Can he work with everyone for an elongated period of time to make this a situation where we are successful for 5 to 10 years? Thats my worry, cause he's a difficult guy. But I know he can coach. So if we can get him...sure, clean house. If not...I tread carefully.
At the very least Getsy needs to be fired. Thats a non-negotiable to me. I do not want to see him ruin this offense any more with his play calling. Its abysmal.
So you are gonna mix in a new OC with the same HC and same QB and hope Getsy was 99% of the problem on O?
Haven't we done that so many times before? No thanks for me
I get it. I don't have the issue with a new OC coming in with Fields that some do. Like I said, I have my issues with Flus, but he's also done some very good things. We can't ignore that or dismiss it totally. Change for change sake is never a good thing without a well thought out process to handle that change. If I don't think there is a better HC out there...then it is what it is. I'm DAMN SURE the play calling sucked though, and the comments from players back that up. No matter what happens with Flus or Fields, Getsy needs to go.

How much time do we keep giving him?
He's the worst QB in the division. He is at 2.5k yards for the season while Love hit 4k. I don't see Fields as a 3k passer
Getting a guy like Harrison won't make him a 4k passer either. So its a waste to take a WR that good when someone will lose catches just like Mooney fell off the clip this year.

Getsy needs to go but that's the bare minimum for me.
Let's say they do it half-ass and blame Getsy for 99% of the problems on O. How the hell is Flus, a defensive HC with a 10-24 record who's entering a hotseat year, gonna attract a high quality OC candidate? And who might that be?
I see threading that needle as way, way harder and way more risky than simply hiring Harbaugh.

I couldn't tell you and thankfully I don't have to figure it out. I will remind everyone again of something Adam Rank said on his podcast about him having info that "the Bears were sniffing around an established OC who hasn't been an HC before". So they may have a plan in place already. We won't know until we know, as frustrating as that may be.

He has not been provided with an NFL-quality offensive coordinator since he arrived here. You saw the OL in that game. No NFL quarterback can function when the D is on you with the snap... Fields couldn't even use his legs in that game running for his life. D was in the backfield with the snap. The WRs not named DJ Moore are not starter quality players. I would think we "start the clock" when there is a coach, OL and WRs who are NFL-quality (even average NFL quality). Would Marvin Harrison Jr, a solid OL and a good Offensive Coordinator make a difference? You know the answer. Love has a solid franchise top-to-bottom. They churn out great offenses like a sausage factory. Hall of Fame level QBs (they have had 4 now if you include AR) come pretty easy for them due to the fact they know what they are doing building an offense there. Bears have no clue. But somehow this is all Justin Fields' fault? Cmon.
