On the contrary (and I was surprised!), rd 1 WRs are more often busts (no 2nd contract) than QBs. Read that not long ago.
You need to narrow it down to top-5, because that’s where Harrison will be drafted. I am not sure, but I’d bet more WRs than QBs are drafted near the tail end of the first round.
Ja’Marr Chase was drafted #5.
At the current draft. MHJR is getting drafted #4 to go with the cardinals. If you want him. You have to pick him in the top 3 which is pretty expensive for a wr.
So the solution is to roll with Fields. Pay him 40 million a year to be average at best? He has nothing in his NFL career showing he can go above and beyond. College is college. Going after Williams allows us to reset the QB clock another 3 years.
Again, it all comes down to if we're keeping the HC or not.
The obvious caveat is discerning what Fields can be and if that is the belief that he CAN be a solid QB1 then you pay for a legit QB1 at some point... it doesn't need to be next year though. Fields is under contract. That discernment decision is a big "if" and I admit that. But at some point you get what you pay for. Doing things on the cheap is not always the best way. That's my point here. I do like the idea of a small trade down in this draft to get MHJ and in the windfall of draft picks you make certain you get the other team's 2025 pick... most teams drafting a new QB will not do too well that first year... yes, there are some exceptions to that. But that EXTRA first round pick can be a bit of a safety net in case you do move on from Fields after next season. Bears don't have to do a new contract with Fields... they have him next season already. MOTM, I'm not a fan of the top QBs in this draft. I'm just not.
This QB draft is better than last year and next year draft. If you want a QB. You pick him up now. It pains me to miss on MHJR but if williams is the guy Sean Payton is talking about being an elite difference maker. Do you really pass up on him? We have another 1st round pick that could go to a day 1 starting wr. So in the end we really could change this offense around with these two picks.

Thats what im thinking too. Really like Fields, but... I dont have any faith in him when 4th quarter comes. Not even now. He never proved anything there, not even remotely.

That depends on what you believe he is.
If he’s Randy Moss 2.0, we are Super Bowl ready 2025, baby!

His 4th Q stats are really bad.
Another reason why I am ambivalent. Also another reason I'm so pissed at these coaches for stumbling so badly out of the gate this season. THIS is the stuff we needed to see from Fields this year to make this decision easy. It shouldn't be this hard but it is and a big reason for that is that we spent the first half of the season floundering around with coaching turmoil & screwups which impeded a clear evaluation of the QB. We didn't learn anything of value from 28 screen passes and 14 jet sweeps per game.

I admit it's a tough choice and not an easy one at all. I just hope they get it right. Regarding Sean Payton, I don't know what to make of him now. Not sure he's the same guy he was. For that matter I feel the same way about Bill Belichick.
It's a good point. Great players don't always come from top draft picks. I'll confess that as much as I have been pounding the thought of drafting a center this next draft, I also realize you can get a great C outside of that first round. Jay Hilgenberg wasn't even drafted and became a great center... at least I thought so. And I'll bet the guy who has the best career out of this coming draft at QB won't be either of the top-2 guys taken. But hey, who knows, right? To some extent it's a crap shoot on the draft. I've been talking about Marvin Harrison Jr a lot in the messageboard, but I have the feeling there will be 2 or 3 others who will be studs too. The Bears may feel that one of the others is actually better than MHJ... so LOL, I shouldn't have a heart attack if they don't draft MHJ.

BB has NOTHING to work with this year. Nothing on either side of the ball. That team has less talent on it than the 2022 Bears.
And I thought SP did a great job to drag Denver almost into a wildcard this year. He has little to work with either.
