I've watched over 60 years of "can't miss" QBs miss. It is like buying a lottery ticket. If you hit, it is incredible. But most folks are rubes thinking a youngster coming out of college is a lock to be good in the NFL. You'd think fans would understand this but they don't. But I get it. It's cool to think Caleb is yet another "generational" talent that gets thrown around a lot now. SMH.

Other than Winston and maybe Young (jury is still out) I'd take any one of those guys over Fields. That's a pretty good batting average.

You also got to remember, all 1st round pick teams either gave up a haul to get their guy. Meaning future players which only hurts the team or is missing some talent.
Who does Bryce Young have to throw too? Panthers don't really have any good offensive weapons. This draft is loaded with WR's. 2 going in the top 10. Another one in the top 15. And Thomas I see going somewhere in the 20's.
Kyler Murray will look better with MHJR or Nabers catching the ball for him.
Cam Newton was an MVP in his prime. Injuries derailed him.
Joe Burrow is far better than Fields.
Trevor Lawrence needs more support.
The ones I wouldn't take.
Sam Bradford Jameis Winston Jared Goff
I don't really understand why some people think Fields is Jay Culter level talent now. Jorden Love is having a far better season with lesser talent on offense. He'll be 4k passing yards after next week. Fields might be lucky to get 2500.

Yeah, we disagree on that. So many of the sure thing guys are not. But some do work out well. Luck, Burrow and Lawrence I like off that list. Fields will be better than the rest. If not for us then for the next team. I remember fans and sports media people gushing over the "can't miss" JaMarcus Russell, and another was Ryan Leaf, how about Akili Smith? Remember him? Most don't. How about the mighty Heath Shuler? So much hype for him and he was out of football entirely after crapping the bed for four years. Do you remember us drafting the great Cade McNown here? His Bears career lasted 15 games and he was out of football in 3 years.
I get so tired of people talking about the draft darlings each year and gushing about them being "sure things" at the NFL level. Most of these guys never hit Justin Fields' floor - and I do believe his ceiling is high. Time will tell. We can agree to disagree on it all. And that's fine.

As long as you are aware same thing goes for WRs..

I'd argue Lawrence has gotten WAY more support than Fields ever has. They hired an offensive coach to be the HC and they went out and spent serious money on weapons for him. You can argue over whether they spent that money well...but they did it! Fields first year was spent with an HC that was hellbent on running his system and never developed him properly, then he was given a defensive HC and had the team torn down around him.
Jordan Love may not be surrounded by ELITE talent, but he has an offensive HC who is a VERY GOOD play caller. Their receivers go 3 deep with good players and I like Wicks a lot too, and they drafted two good tight ends, plus their line is above average. Its not like Love is working with what Fields was working with last year. He's got talent around him.

Yes, you are right about WRs and every other position. Nothing in life is a sure thing. But personally, I think it is easier to measure a WR's NFL transition potential than the QB1. Some positions seem to me to be a bit more predictable as far as busting. RB is one. OL guards another. It is a wide spectrum from most difficult to predict than being a position that is somewhat easier to predict. But granted, bust happen at all positions. If someone put a gun to my head and my life depended upon picking a guy in the draft that would not bust - well, it would be a WR position guy over a QB1 guy. And it wouldn't even be close. Not for me anyway.

That sucks that happen to Fields. Who knows how he would be if he had an offensive minded HC developing him to the best of his ability. I was against the Flus hire just because it made no sense to have a young QB with a defensive minded HC.
Reality is, Fields is not a thrower. He will never be one. QB's can overcome bad teams as we see with the Texans. If we're keeping Flus then I'm for keeping Fields as I don't want another HC on the hot seat picking a QB they won't see after a year. Truthfully rather have a fresh start. Grab Jim Harbaugh and have him decide who he wants.

I obviously disagree.
Also, and I've covered this already...the Texans ARE NOT a bad team. They have two solid running backs, a good offensive line that has Laremy Tunsil on it, Nico Collins was a receiver expected to have and primed for a 3rd year breakout, Tank Dell, who we talked about endlessly in the draft process, and Daulton Schultz at tight end. Beyond that, Bobby Slowik is a TREMENDOUS play caller. They also have a defense that plays good complementary football. Thats a helluva a lot more than Fields could claim last year and the year before.
Reality is, Fields is not a thrower. He will never be one.
But he HAS been one hell of an accurate passing QB. He came to us gift wrapped from an Ohio State career that showcased a QB1 with incredible passing skills - the whole package - a canon arm, precision deep ball, fantastic mental gears where he faced the best-of-the-best defenses and on some of the greatest stages in sports. I have watched every single snap Fields took at Ohio State. His passing skills are pure gold. But...
... we draft him and let Nagy pretty much stunt all of that instead of developing the kid.
Then we give him to who? Luke Getsy who tries to pound the square peg into the round hole until the splinters are flying. Just a tragic what we did to him here.
We put a pitiful OL in front of him and stone hand receivers until this season (we have one guy who is legit now and Kmet at TE). Fields came here a thrower QB1 and an elite one. But the Bears did what Bears do to quarterbacks here in Chicago. We sure don't set them up for success like other franchises (the better ones) have done.
