I was on the YouTube comments section for the following video, posted by former Bear QB Chase Daniel about how he feels that Fields is really underrated.
Personally I try as best I can to look at a young Bears player (any young guy) and not consider where he is, but rather where I believe he will be - ceiling. Fans usually look at young players and judge them in a snapshot... what they presently are is who they will forever be - in the tiny minds of many fans. Fans seem to live in a stark "black and white world" with zero "shades of gray" - and the world simply isn't like that. People sure as hell are not like that. Another thing we see with fans (often anyway) is that they fail to understand that every human being is unique. Just because "Player X" ended up being good/bad or whatever - really doesn't define "Player Y" in any way. Same with teams. Fans will point to some team and say the Bears should be able to do the same thing that team did... but it does not work that way. There ARE exceptions that are not the norm. But good luck convincing meatball fans of this. Finally, you have some Bears fans who would rather be "right" in the end than to truly want these players to succeed. They will anoint a guy as a bust halfway through the first rookie season (or even at the draft for that matter) and then put that player under a microscope looking for flaws in their game that they can then announce loudly on social media as validating their initial anointing of the kid as a bust. SMH. Those "fans" are not wanting kids to succeed or even the team to succeed. It's all a thing where they want to puff out their chests and say they were right... they 100% WANT the kid to fail in order to make the claim of how smart they were... they'll post it all on social media that they were "right" about it all. And they will often re-write history to try and cover up their earlier claims on a player.
Regarding Justin Fields, I do believe the Bears should continue with him as QB1. I 100% believe that if they do, then they will be rewarded with the best QB they have had in their history.... at least since old Sid Luckman was drafted in 1939. I also believe he is more of a sure thing than drafting a kid in this draft class. Not saying he IS a sure thing. Just saying he is less of a mystery than a kid who has to transition to the NFL game from scratch. I get it that a draftee would reset the salary clock for a QB here. But there is more at stake here than just drafting a kid to reset the $$$ clock. JMO.
