I will be very surprised if Maye is there at #5. If you trade back very far in the first round, you could miss on all of the top-3 QBs. I don’t want to risk that just for a second round pick.
If we are getting rid of Fields, we need a QB1 prospect who looks to have a higher ceiling than Fields. Otherwise, it is much better to keep Fields and use the two picks ourselves.
Pretty sure NE goes QB probably Williams. Leaving Cardinals who probably won't draft QB because of Murray's contract, and Washington who might draft a QB. So at that point we'd have to worry about a team leap frogging us. Giants could at 7 or Falcons at 10 but anyone else there have to give a haul to move back farther IMO.
Trading Fields to Atlanta would eliminate them. They sure need a QB. Ridder sucks big-time.

Maybe send Fields to Washington in a trade swap plus a 2nd for us.

+1 I strongly believe that too. If you don't get one of the top 2 or 3 QBs in this draft you get a JAG. Worse than Fields. It will be a QB frenzy for those top 3 guys. It has nothing to do if they are worth the highest draft picks because teams will overdraft QB1. They will mortgage the farm to do that too. This past draft we saw the top-3 QBs gone in 4 picks. Expect something like that this upcoming draft. The non-QB will be MHJ.
We won't get more than a 2nd round pick for Fields, and maybe only a 3rd round pick. If the fans think we are getting a QB1 and also Marvin Harrison Jr... well that ain't happening. MHJ will be top 2 or 3 pick. Caleb will be top 2 pick. Maye will not drop beyond #5 in this draft and probably won't be there then. Bears are going to win just enough to drop them to ~6th or 7th with their own pick. And the Panthers better stop the win thing now or they will drop a bit too.

CHGO was talking today about how the mood in the Bears locker room has suddenly changed. Apparently, a number of players also made comments critical of Flus with regard to that dumb 3rd & 13 defensive play call he made. The team has held together remarkably well up till now, which was a credit to Flus, but it appears cracks in the ship's hull are starting to form.
I say this because I wouldn't get too far ahead of ourselves about draft order predictions and what players will go where. Yeah probably true that Williams, Maye, and MHJ will all go top-5. Not a guarantee but likely.
But I wouldn't at all be surprised if the Bears end up with two top-5 picks either. Chances of Carolina winning 2 more games is minimal. Chances of Bears losing out is higher than you think, especially if the team is quitting on Flus.
Cards O has looked much better lately and Murray seems to be getting back into form. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see them beat us this weekend. And Flus isn't gonna win in Lambeau even against a crap Green Bay team. Can we beat Atlanta? You would think so but they are still fighting for a playoff berth so should be motivated.
Our strength-of-schedule is laughably weak (been saying that all season) so we have the tiebreaker against anyone who equals our record.
Picks 1 & 5 are very possible Picks 1 & 4 only requires one Washington win

If we are at 1 and 4 and we believe there are 3 solid options for qb1, I may consider taking MHJ at 1 and qb at 4.

+1 I would consider that too. It all depends upon how the Bears view these QBs. And maybe the guy at #4 is actually the QB the Bears prefer anyway. I'm not on the Caleb hype train. He may go first, yet not be the right guy for us.

Who knows at this point? All options would be on the table. Way too soon to know what players are going to go where in the top-10.
Point is, you have a lotta great options with two top picks. So, as much as I feel dirty doing it, I am rooting for Carolina and Chicago to lose out the next 3.

Under every conceivable scenario, I’m taking Harrison #1. End of story.
