I should preface this by saying I think Harbaugh is a very good coach, and Harbaugh the coach I have no issues with.
The reason why I say "I'm good" is because its not just Harbaugh the coach you're getting...its the whole Harbaugh experience. Harbaugh is an agent of chaos...it seems to follow him wherever he goes. He's abrasive and tiresome and he seems to crave attention. He's tough to work with and has an over sized ego and usually his end at the places he's at involves some sort of drama/chaos/tear down. He's in it for him, and he doesn't seem to much care about the aftermath once he's gone. He does not work well with others and he wants all the power/control. That works really well in college, but in the NFL its a different story.
I like what the Bears are building under Poles and now Warren. I think this franchise is set on a course where it can be successful with the right coaches in place...and I don't want to see that all blown up by a guy like Harbaugh. If he agrees to come in and just be Jim Harbaugh the football coach, and not Jim Harbaugh the GM and Team President Super Ego Maniac...cool...I'm all for it. I'm just leery as to how long that would actually all last and whether his style of coaching can last more than 4 years with one team before people get tired of dealing with his act. He doesn't have to worry about that in college because none of them are generally there for more than that.
Could I be wrong about all of that? Sure...I don't know Harbaugh personally...I'm just going off of what I've heard and what I've seen reported.
Have a college coach moving to NFL with his college QB ever been a successful connection? I remember Spurrier in Washington wanting his college QBs...Shane Matthews specifically (if I remember that correctly). Didn't end well.

I hear you on that bruv. And as a Redskins fan, before they ceased to exist, I witnessed it firsthand, so I see why that would give you pause for concern. The thing with Steve Spurious is he didn't want to put in the long hours an NFL coach must do; he only cared about seeing if his Fun and Gun style would work in the pros more than actually trying to be a good coach; he didn't have a single coach with actual league experience on his staff, all of them were strictly college coaches up to that point, save for Marvin Lewis. And not surprisingly The Redskins got worse when he left for Cincy because he was the real head coach Steve's first year i.e. putting the practices together and helping with the overall game plans.
The difference is Harbaugh has actually coached in the NFL and was somewhat successful at this level. The reason I say somewhat is because it was Vic Fangio's defense that lead to his 49er's success not Jim's offensive prowess or knowledge. His O's were good but nothing that kept DCs up at night in a cold sweat. SF's defense is what carried the team to it's Superbowl run and NFC championships. And his year in San Fran things started to fall apart. There must be a reason why despite all of his accomplishments he was let go in favor of their GM?
So those factors, what he did in NFL, is what needs to be looked at. And if the Bears passed on him for those reasons I would get it and wouldn't be upset over it. Not to mention if he won't budge on having GM powers that is another factor not to hire him. The only coached to ever make that work was Dennis Green with The Vikings, never winning a Superbowl and then it not working out so well with The Cardinals. And, of course, Bill Belichick who only made it work because he had arguably the greatest quarterback of all time on his roster, who would take paycuts to help the team out. Since Tom left Bill has not looked so good so that's another knock against one man being both. So yeah I'm not concerned about him coming from Michigan I'm judging him by his NFL tenure which isn't bad but nothing that screams franchise savior, either.

Every division leader in the NFL has an Offensive HC.
It is interesting to go through the Super Bowl winning HC's (LINK HERE) and it's mostly Offensive HCs. But the exceptions are notable (Mike Tomlin, Pete Carroll, Bill Belichick, Tony Dungee... some pretty good HCs who were Defensive guys). But most recently it is mostly O guys that won.

We've all been saying that for years here. It was the reason we all clamored against hiring Flus in the first place. Its only a minority that pointed to the failures of Trestman and Nagy was reason to not go OFF-HC again after Nagy.
