Had to laugh on CHGO post game last night when they said "it takes the Bears only 2 weeks to squeeze the life out of whatever moxie any QB has".
I'm willing to wager a great deal of money that Flutsy, desperately coaching this week to eke out a win and keep their jobs, completely coached any talent Bagent had out of him. They took away any rhythm and aggressiveness the kid had going.
I hate these guys. I literally despise this coaching staff.
I think we're putting this backup player under a microscope and reading too much into it. I just figure he's a backup - and a rookie backup too. What we are seeing shouldn't surprise us. We shouldn't anoint him as a potential starting quality QB. At the same time we shouldn't be surprised if he looks a bit rough and tentative out there too. Bagent will be a solid backup QB in this league. No, he will probably not be a starting quality QB though. I'm fine with that. In fact I like the fact we have him now as a young ascending QB2. I'd take him over the deadbeat vet QBs we've had around here. This kid probably has a modestly high ceiling that he will ascend to. No matter who the QB1 is in future seasons here, I think we've filled the backup QB position very well with Tyson Bagent. Love the signing - as a backup.
Not dogging Bagent one bit. Just pointing out how bad these coaches are.
They make everything they touch (or nearly everything) turn to warm poo. Keep in mind they were playing a terrible team yesterday missing its best cornerback and best edge rusher.
Feels like Bagent has gotten worse since taking over as starter, picking up some of Field's hesitancy.

That was my take on it too. They overcoached Fields and now that Bagent gets #1 reps he's getting overcoached too, squeezing the game right out of him. Chicago is where QBs, WRs and everybody but MLBs go to get run into the ground, misused and burned out.
I went with Bagent. Teams now have film on him and can defend him MUCH better than in those initial games. That is a difference-maker. We need to keep in mind what this player is - he is the backup. Nobody expects this guy to ever be a stud starting QB in the NFL. He is a backup, and on top of that he is trying to transition from playing against D2 college talent. He went from his last D2 opponent, the Colorado School of Mines (LOL, is that even a legit college?) to facing the Minnesota Vikings, Raiders, LA Chargers, New Orleans Saints and last night a win over the Carolina Panthers. His completion percentage was better than the #1 overall pick of the draft that he was facing (Bryce Young). Of the two QBs last night I don't think Young looked any better than Bagent.
Bagent did what a good backup has to do to win games. He managed the offense well. He protected the football with zero ints. He got the win. Bagent is just getting his feet wet at the NFL level. He will undoubtedly improve in future years as a backup QB in the NFL. I really like having this guy as our QB2 for the future - no matter who is QB1 here. In the modern NFL where QB1's drop like flies to injuries, the backup QB matters now. It could matter a lot in future years here when the Bears could be playoff contenders and their QB1 gets injured. Bagent will be a guy who can stack wins here as a backup in future years. I love that. Kudos to Poles for signing this "diamond in the rough" kid from the obscure D2 school.
Watch it there, me and papabear might have to unload on you for that one (we're both geologists). CSoM is a major university with a long history. Started in 1870 or so if I remember, obviously geared toward gold and silver mining and assaying. But it expanded to include earth sciences and environmental science and is very strong on technology. You might want to check it out. I think it's the #1 mining and metalurgical college in the WORLD. At one time 45 years ago or so I considered applying there, but it was too hard to get into. I'd have to look up the # of students and anything sports related. But yes, it IS a legit college.
Several of the best engineering schools in the world started out as a "School of Mines". There are several in the US, besides being outstanding engineering schools, that are really tough to get into. Like Michigan Tech, Missouri University of Science and Technology, etc.
Can I just say, I can't wait for Justin to start again...
I watched the first half and our play calling is just terrible. Little to nothing across the middle. Outside left, or right, with dinks, dunks and screens. I felt it was only a matter of time before one was jumped for a pick six. Even with a “weak armed” rooking qb, the play calling has to be better. I can honestly say I can see why Bagent and Fields struggle in this environment as it’s just horrible. As much as I want Flus to go, the team has to get rid of Getsy.

If last night's craptastic game doesn't convince you that Flutsy sucks & needs to go, then nothing will.
These guys barely beat the worst team in the NFL, at home, with them travelling on a short week, missing their 2 best players, and starting rookie QB who is showing more bust potential than a slutty Hollywood starlet.
The HC didn't go for 2 leading by 5 in a low scoring game with a 2-7 football team. That's a 99.9999999999% easy decision every time.
Think about that for a minute.
Think about how overmatched these two clearly are for their jobs. They are both way in over their heads and have no clue.
Sometimes its actually comical when Flus gives a halftime interview and, even allowing for typical coach-speak restrictions, clearly has no idea of how clownish and patronizing his narrative is.
It's like watching 2 guys who barely passed high school math trying to fly a jetliner. And then telling the passengers on the PA that "everything is fine!"

Flus never says it’s fine. It is AWAYS some variation of “We just need to execute better.” Dan Campbell said, “We got our ass kicked”. We never get anything that bluntly honest.

I could not agree more. My thoughts during the first half were: Where was the Bagent we saw in the first game. He looked like a different person like he had been scolded on a number of things during the week. As a result, I felt he got to the line and was thinking don't do this or that and do what Getsy said for the past three days instead of this is what the defense is showing and reading through the progressions naturally. I too believe he was over-coached, and we saw his rookie raw talent suppressed instead of the offense tuned to take advantage of this.
Sweat, w/out sacks, still hugely influenced this game. I think you'll start to see it as this DL continues to play together and teams continue to limit Sweat and the other DL are now freed up to beat 1x1's

I’m all in on getting rid of Flu, but having seen Poles comments I’m concerned he’s going to keep him. This being the case, Getsy still has to go.
