Barely. Some better game management from Frank Reich and we have OT. Coaches took the ball outta Bagent's hands in the second half and snuck it up Eberflus' sleeve. This is why I gave the game ball to Sweat/Gordon/the defense. The offense wasn't going to win the game, the defense had to prevent the team from losing.
Panthers have no offense. They needed turnovers from Bagent like in last game to win. He and Getsy were both tuned into the game situation.
Eh, they are still an NFL offense. I think some are too quick to discount teams that have success vs bad teams. Teams still have to perform well.
Jenkins & Patrick got their asses handed to them on this play. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Jenkins got tripped by Patrick...not sure how he got his ass handed to him. He's lucky he didn't get hurt from Patrick getting his ass handed to him though.

Not sure if you noticed...but we barely had an offense last night. Thank God Foreman ran the ball the way he did and Moore had some nice YAC plays.
I went with Bagent. Teams now have film on him and can defend him MUCH better than in those initial games. That is a difference-maker. We need to keep in mind what this player is - he is the backup. Nobody expects this guy to ever be a stud starting QB in the NFL. He is a backup, and on top of that he is trying to transition from playing against D2 college talent. He went from his last D2 opponent, the Colorado School of Mines (LOL, is that even a legit college?) to facing the Minnesota Vikings, Raiders, LA Chargers, New Orleans Saints and last night a win over the Carolina Panthers. His completion percentage was better than the #1 overall pick of the draft that he was facing (Bryce Young). Of the two QBs last night I don't think Young looked any better than Bagent.
Bagent did what a good backup has to do to win games. He managed the offense well. He protected the football with zero ints. He got the win. Bagent is just getting his feet wet at the NFL level. He will undoubtedly improve in future years as a backup QB in the NFL. I really like having this guy as our QB2 for the future - no matter who is QB1 here. In the modern NFL where QB1's drop like flies to injuries, the backup QB matters now. It could matter a lot in future years here when the Bears could be playoff contenders and their QB1 gets injured. Bagent will be a guy who can stack wins here as a backup in future years. I love that. Kudos to Poles for signing this "diamond in the rough" kid from the obscure D2 school.

Watch it there, me and papabear might have to unload on you for that one (we're both geologists). CSoM is a major university with a long history. Started in 1870 or so if I remember, obviously geared toward gold and silver mining and assaying. But it expanded to include earth sciences and environmental science and is very strong on technology. You might want to check it out. I think it's the #1 mining and metalurgical college in the WORLD. At one time 45 years ago or so I considered applying there, but it was too hard to get into. I'd have to look up the # of students and anything sports related. But yes, it IS a legit college.

+1 LOL, I didn't mean to diss the school. I'm sure it's a good one. I did look up some of those opponent D2 schools. They may be fantastic academic institutions of learning. But most of the ones I looked up had enrollments about what my high school had. LOL, "Slippery Rock University" and "University of New Haven" and "Colorado School of Mines" are a far far far cry from facing Alabama's, Ohio State's, Michigan's, Georgia's etc. LOL, I did look up the Colorado School of Mines full-time enrollment... it was 12,000 students. Not even enough to fill the end-zone seating section at a big school like Michigan. But I stand corrected about the academics. I wasn't trying to diss any school that way.
My point is that Bagent has entered a new world here facing NFL defenses for the very first time. Did he do anything great? No. But for what he is - a green ass rookie from a D2 program - he did what was needed to win. He ran an efficient offense and let the legit talented starters do their thing and get the win. He didn't turn the ball over last night. He was poised (remarkably so for a rookie). He played as well as his opposing QB, the #1 overall pick of the entire NFL draft, Bryce Young. Shame on any Bears fans who denigrate what the kid did last night. He was a good backup and we need a good backup as the team moves on in 2024 and beyond. There will probably be seasons where we are fighting to make the playoffs - or even IN the playoffs - and QB1 bites the dust with an injury. I think we will have a solid backup who can come in and still do enough to get the wins we need. He will undoubtedly improve as he gets his feet wet at the NFL level. I like what I see.
Feels like Bagent has gotten worse since taking over as starter, picking up some of Field's hesitancy.
Had to laugh on CHGO post game last night when they said "it takes the Bears only 2 weeks to squeeze the life out of whatever moxie any QB has".
I'm willing to wager a great deal of money that Flutsy, desperately coaching this week to eke out a win and keep their jobs, completely coached any talent Bagent had out of him. They took away any rhythm and aggressiveness the kid had going.
I hate these guys. I literally despise this coaching staff.

I think we're putting this backup player under a microscope and reading too much into it. I just figure he's a backup - and a rookie backup too. What we are seeing shouldn't surprise us. We shouldn't anoint him as a potential starting quality QB. At the same time we shouldn't be surprised if he looks a bit rough and tentative out there too. Bagent will be a solid backup QB in this league. No, he will probably not be a starting quality QB though. I'm fine with that. In fact I like the fact we have him now as a young ascending QB2. I'd take him over the deadbeat vet QBs we've had around here. This kid probably has a modestly high ceiling that he will ascend to. No matter who the QB1 is in future seasons here, I think we've filled the backup QB position very well with Tyson Bagent. Love the signing - as a backup.
I went with Foreman whom I think you can argue has been our best consistent O playmaker the last 4 weeks.
I'm gonna list some takeaways for me:
Keeping with my game ball, I'm really impressed with Foreman (and Evans to a lesser extent). Bears actually have 3-4 truly good RBs
I hate on Flus all the time but I'll give him a little credit here--Bears rush D has improved dramatically from a year ago. I think Billings gets most of the credit for that and unfortunately that's the less important facet of the less important side of the ball, but props to Flus for something.
Bears finally had a semblance of a pass rush in that they actually affected the QB yesterday. Caveat is the Carolina OL sucks so lets see if that can continue. But Sweat already looks the real deal and a major upgrade at a key position.
Even taking into account the fact that he's a rookie and doesn't have much help around him, wow Bryce Young is REALLY FREAKIN BAD fellas. He looks horrible out there even with every excuse considered. I'm 99% confident he will be a bust.
Continuing along these lines, how bad does the Carolina GM look right now? He traded away DJ Moore and CMC, gave up a 1st and a 2nd, and clearly drafted the wrong QB at #1. The Panthers are in a world of hurt and are gonna be a dumpster fire for years trying to dig out of this hole.
As bad as Poles got taken to the cleaners by Tomlin on the Claypool deal, he absolutely FLEECED Carolina on that pre-draft trade. Like total highway robbery. Amazingly bad deal for the Panthers and I bet their owner is RED HOT PISSED right now. Tepper is not known for his patience either.
Please tell me Velus never plays another snap for the Bears again.
Lucas Patrick still sucks too.
Sanborn, Tyrique, and JJ all had good INT chances and none of them completed the ball. Flus' defense still sucks at takeaways and I hate his zone bullshit. I hate this coaching staff so much that I'll be relieved when they're fired on Black Monday. We had an false start on a kneel-down yesterday. Seriously, Warren needs to tell Poles to fire them or he will.
