Please, dont forget we getting a PROVEN quality nfl player in sweat, and 2nd rounder is far from it. Just take a look at our last 5 or 10 2nd rd picks.... A certain Adam Shaheen comes to mind (if im not mistaken). I really like the Sweat trade.
+1 And I'm sure that I will too (like the trade). We just need to watch what Kevin Warren does in the off season to fix the franchise. I do still have hope that he can be THE change agent we've needed here for decades. He seems like he is a competent guy. Maybe he will begin digging in and doing real change needed here after this season ends. I hope so.
Writer for Commanders wire (he saw every sec of these boys) says this:
Washington had four first-round picks on the defensive line in a row. Sweat was the only one who didn’t make a Pro Bowl, but that doesn’t define him. Sweat is a better overall player than Chase Young. He doesn’t have the upside, but he is more proven and reliable. In his four-plus years in Washington, Sweat made some game-changing plays and was close to others. Looking back to his second season against the Cowboys on Thanksgiving, you’ll see Sweat with pick-6; that was probably the highlight of his tenure. The Commanders will miss Sweat.
Short version: Sweat is a better overall player than Chase Young.
And thats why we gave more. For a better player. Im done here.

But if we don't complain about it than we can't bring it up in thread after thread after thread after thread......

Tbh I dont mind. I dont mind complaining (i get it, we suck for a long time), dont mind optimism (human nature). Dont mind anything. Just glad we still here, after all these years, still talking about our Bears. Inept, no-good, sucking Bears, from top to bottom. But, our Bears.
Neither. I would have kept that pick (it will be like the 2nd rnd pick Poles gave away for Claypool, a high 2nd and almost a 1st) - and I would have drafted an offense stud that the O so desperately needs. It would have been high enough to have drafted the best C in the entire draft - elite talent - who could have anchored that OL for the next decade or more.
The offense will probably need a QB, LT, C & WR in 2024. Not mid-round "hope and a prayer" guys but a rock solid QB, LT, C & WR. And not deadbeat/overpaid/underperforming vets in FA.
But Eberflus got another D toy for his toybox as he continues to build his "Cover Who" version of the vaunted Lovie Smith defense of the early 2000's.
I just wouldn't have spent that draft pick. I wouldn't have spent the one on Claypool either. Here's a novel though. Why not draft your OWN studs? Beginning with the Offense that we continue to bitch and moan about every single year here.
I get your overall point, JABF. But the 2024 draft class for Edge rushers doesn't look so hot.
This is a massive need at a key position of impact.
A 2nd is fair for that.
Here's a bottom line we all KNOW but somehow forget from time to time -- trying to win in this league without high-level QB play is next to impossible. That's the way the rules are structured in the modern game. We have a great RB room, prob one of the best in the NFL and can't win much. NYG have Saquon Barkley -- can't win (their record is 2-5 like us). Raiders have Josh Jacobs -- they can't win. And so on and so on.
Even teams with great defenses struggle to get above 500 without a really good QB. Cue up the Jets and Browns for perfect examples. I bet both will end up missing the playoffs.
Ptisme and all the other Green Bay fans are learning the last few weeks what we Bears fans have been living with for decades -- IT IS REALLY REALLY REALLY HARD TO WIN MANY NFL GAMES WITHOUT A TOP-NOTCH QB.
I have zero love for Flus or Getsy and think both should be fired for sure. But lets be honest here all of us -- if Fields was tearing it up this year, we wouldn't notice or care about them. Just can't win much with mediocre QB play. And the Bears have had almost nothing but mediocre (or worse) QB play for many years.
