Well, one good thing is that he isn't one of these rookie HCs. He's coached a lot of years. He also checks the box of being an offense knowledgeable guy. He played QB at the NFL level for 14 years before being a coach. I mentioned that he probably wouldn't come to the Bears unless he received assurances that he had complete power over football operations. That may or may not be a good thing... I do believe the guy is a good coach. I also believe an NFL team would be willing to give him the power he wants... and I totally see why he would want that power. Hey, I'd want the same thing if I were in his shoes. Would you want to trust some fuzz-faced young GM with your destiny if you don't have to? The guy would be an idiot to not want that kind of control (few HCs can demand that type of power and get it - he is one of the few who can).

Yeah I'd take Harbaugh as Bears HC in a New York minute. And if that means he also wants to be a co-GM, then yeah fine by me. It's not like the last 3 Bears GMs have exactly lit the league on fire.
But the McCaskeys don't have the balls to make this kind of trajectory-altering move.

bait? trolling? when have I said I hate him? Warren and him don't like eachother.
Many times you talked about how Harbaugh wouldn't be good. Heck it was 2 weeks ago in the chat box you were saying no to him.
I was saying Warren won't hire him b/c they don't like eachother.
I don't think I've ever talked about his coaching. I've said there is no way the Bears are buying out the Mich contract. I've talked about how he doesn't appear to want to come to the NFL; and I've talked about how Harbaugh wasn't happy w/how Warren dealt w/the covid year. How he and Warren haven't gotten along on other issues also.
Odd how he talks about wanting to come back to the NFL now that the walls are closing in on his job; and people assume its for Chicago, and act like the new team president and he don't have a history of not getting along.

Warren won't do it either.
+1 That's my thought too, Ric. It's not that I like or don't like Harbaugh as a coach. I just don't think Warren and Poles are going to give any coach the kind of power that would diminish their power. And I totally get that. It's all about the power and control. Harbaugh will probably want that kind of control, but Warren and Poles want that control also. As far as Harbaugh's coaching ability, I figure he HAS to be better than the guys like Trestman, Fox, Nagy & Eberflus. He is a polarizing figure who turns a lot of people off. But if the guy can win, that's really all I care about. And Harbaugh is driven to win I think... I just think that's how he is wired.
Any guy the Bears bring in here, if he has never been a head coach before, is a big gamble. It is a big step up from being a coordinator to being in charge of the whole show. I don't care if the next HC is a lovable likable guy... I just want a guy who can coach and win.

Along with what you wrote, Harbaugh is a proven, successful offensive-minded head coach who knows how to develop a QB. He also would have access to and appeal for the best coordinator candidates, something the Bears have struggled with for decades. Those are the biggest reasons why he should be at the top of the list, if he is indeed "available" this coming offseason.
All of the rest and all of the "cons" are just meaningless window-dressing.
He wants "control"? Ok, so what? Name me the last Bears GM with "control" who was successful. You'll have to go way back to early-Angelo 20 years ago to find one.
Poles won't like someone on his turf? Ok, so what? Unlike David, I'm agnostic on Poles and don't care whether he stays, goes, gets promoted, or demoted. Who the hell cares about Poles' hurt feelings? Not me, nor should ownership.
Warren doesn't get along with him? IDK if this was true or is still true, but I also don't care. Warren can go back to doing what he was hired to do which is get a stadium deal done and he can leave day-to-day team operations to Harbaugh. Having JH around would make Warren's job EASIER and would likely make a stadium deal look more appealing to the municipalities he has to bargain with. No one is excited about Eberflus. Harbaugh would bring real excitement and cachet. Warren can get over it.
This is a franchise-altering move that would indicate ownership is serious about building a real winner. You gotta break some eggs to make an omlette and I don't care about the eggs. The McCaskeys are too stodgy though--they don't have the balls to really break out of their shell. So they will hire yet another "safe" coaching candidate who won't rock the boat and he will probably suck like most of them do.
