Starter Tyson Bagent, "I have nothing to lose"

Remember he's a backup for a reason. Hopefully he is a NFL quality backup.

I think Bagent has an innate understanding of various offensive schemes.  I remember from his pre-draft interviews on YT that he went through 3 different offensive schemes in his college career.  And his stats indicate he didn't miss a beat offensively, year to year.  So, he seems to be able to quickly learn and master a new scheme.

But his biggest hurdle will be how fast he can read, process, react and adjust at the line of scrimmage in the NFL.  And it isn't just his hurdle.  All college QBs who try to make it in the NFL have the same issue.  All the truly elite QBs in the NFL seem to be able to do that read, process, etc stuff in the blink of an eye. And IMO that is something of a superpower.  If Bagent can do that, he will have a solid career as an NFL QB.  If not, he might play a couple of years and that's it.

Personally, I really like the guy.  I feel that his real career might be after he stops playing and works on the sidelines as a coach, coordinator, whatever.  He strikes me as a really serious student of the game and could be one of those guys who has an encyclopedic mind for all things football.

That's a good point to remind ourselves.  He is not only a backup, but a rookie D2 backup in his very first NFL start.  We need to keep it real, with our expectations - especially with this really bad Bears offense.  

But you also make a great point, in that hopefully we have a quality backup here.  If he can be that guy, then that is a very valuable commodity moving forward.  And we have had some pretty crappy backups for the most part.  I am so hoping this young guy can be better.
