Wasn't he given a list of potential HCs by the McCaskey "committee"? He chose Flus. He said he fell in love with Flus at first sight.
The choices were two defensive coordinators (Flus & Dan Quinn) and one offensive guy (Jim Caldwell)
If I were to choose, I would have picked Caldwell. Flus must have interviewed well and his pitch including Getsy seemed to solidify the OC position, with an up and coming positional coach.
It looks like a mistake. I do believe Getsy has a future in the NFL and isn't a complete bum, it seems he and Fields aren't a good match.
Fields has been unable to solve his biggest issue coming out of college. Is that a coaching issue or is that an issue that Fields will never grow out of? Time will tell, but unless he learns to consistently hit receivers before they are open, he'll never be a successful starting QB.
Have you ever seen a SLOWER QB than Fields?
I don't think I have. With most young QBs who are going thru the growing pains, you see a guy get "happy feet" and he's unable to hang in there to complete the planned play.
With Fields, I find myself yelling at the TV "throw it!" literally multiple times in a single dropback while he screws up and runs into another sack. He makes Jay Cutler look quick by comparison.
Getsy certainly hasn't helped him with his jankety playcalling (its obvious he doesn't trust JF much) and his scheme seems ill-suited to what Fields does best, but YEASH IT HAS TO BE HAIR-PULLING FRUSTRATING AS A COACH TO WATCH HIM DO THE SAME STUPID SHIT OVER AND OVER.
Its Year 3 dude! Have you no sense of timing or internal clock whatsoever?

This might be a hot take on this board, but I believe Fields goes through his reads too quickly. He doesn't see the open guy bc he's unnecessarily moved on to the next read - which also isn't open.

hmmm I'm not sure about that, but idh the all 22 to watch his head and see if that's possible.

Here is the 2021 season record and the 2022-23 composite W-L records for the Bears, Seahawks, Jags, and LIONS….
Jags 2021 record: 3-14 W-L record 2022-23: 13-10
Seahawks 2021 record: 7-10 W-L record 2022-23: 12-10
LIONS 2021 record: 3-13-1 W-L record 2022-23: 14-9
Bears 2021 record: 6-10 W-L record 2022-23: 4-19
These other three teams had about the same (Seahawks) record as the Bears or much worse (Jags and LIONS). Nevertheless, they have all played over .500 ball in 2022-23, while our genius GM Poles has gone 4-19 – a miserable 17% winning percentage. His so-called brilliant “rebuild” strategy has been an unmitigated failure. The comparison to the Lions is especially sickening (4-19 vs. 19-4). They said on GMF this morning that the LIONS are now competitive with any team in the NFL. They did it during the same two years of Poles tenure, starting from a 3-13-1 record.

You wanna look at how many 1st round draft picks each GM used? Pete Carroll is a good coach, he was always likely he would get his team to be competitive again.

Brax was as good as Cross in 2022, and Cross has been injured this season and like Brax only played 2-3 games. Seahawks did have two firsts this year (Witherspoon and JSN), but Poles got DJMoore and other picks from Panthers plus Wright, so that’s no huge discrepancy. I don’t think that even Pete Carroll could achieve much with the Poles roster. Overall, John Schneider’s roster improvements 2022-23 are far superior to Poles, and that’s the main reason the record is much better. All these other GMs are just better at the job.

You just compared our 5th round LT to the Seahawks 1st… that's kind of a win for our GM, no?
If Poles doesn't trade Mack, he only has 5 picks in 2022, 2 top-100 picks. Keep Mack, he'd be getting double teamed, dominated, and we'd be complaining that we didn't trade him. Regardless, he turned those 6 picks into 3 starters (Gordon, Brisker, Jones), a solid punter, 4 role players (Velus, Carter, DomRob, Hicks), and I would still like to try Kramer over the vets we have. That's not bad. I expect Gordon & Brisker to get resigned, but it's too soon to know.
The early returns on the 2023 draft are minimal, but his first round pick is everything we could ask for, Wright is a cornerstone player. This is where coaching comes in… Dexter and Pickens have their best game vs Washington, can someone tell me why Justin Jones played 43 snaps and the two rookies DTs only played 26 snaps combined? But I'm rambling.
