My first post in forever. I've been active on Twitter, but I want to get more active here again.
Figured since I've been absent, this little poll will let me know where y'all are at.
Thanks for posting that because I've been pondering this myself, as far as where I'm personally at on this. It looks to me like Fields is positioning himself to prove to be the guy. But he hasn't proven anything yet... meaning he needs to now stack good performances (even if the team loses - he - needs to showcase that he is a solid QB1 guy). To sway me into joining "he is the guy" camp, Fields needs to close out some games well and show that he can put the offense on his back and win close games. I also want to see him continue to look more relaxed and in a rhythm (like he has in these last two games... build on that). I know the defense is pitiful, but I still want to see Fields stack some wins (Bears haven't done this since 2021). In order to do that I believe Fields will need to elevate the team around him - yes, even though the team needs more talent, I still want to see Fields elevate the guys he does have around him - and look like a franchise QB. That's what good franchise QBs do. I totally get it, that the talent is not that good. But I do believe Fields can still do some good things with what he has. He's scored pretty well the last two games against bad teams... maybe beat a good team or two in these last 12 matchups.

I was preaching patience to myself the first two losses of the season, but that KC loss ... It broke me a little bit.
After watching the YouTube QB guys (Chase Daniel, JT O', and Tim Jenkins), I was still upset, but less with Fields and more with the organization.
The last two weeks have calmed me. It looks like Fields is playing more free and has his footwork right. I agree with you, Fields needs to start stacking these performances. If he can, those 2 first round draft picks are going to go a long way to rounding out this roster, while building up more draft capital.
I need to see how he does against better teams. If he continues this trend against say Detroit, then we can talk.
I feel that. If he can do it against the Vikings this weekend, I'll be quite close to crowing him. Sure, the Vikings are a bad defense, similar to Denver & Washington, but 3 games sets a pattern. These are still NFL defenses.
Washington's DL is still incredibly talented, Brian Flores is a solid defensive mind.
Either way, I want to see his full 17 game, 2023 season sample before I make any proclamations.
I like the guy, and he's showing promise and improvement but he has work to do and things to clean up before I buy him as the guy. Problem is I can't tell if his issues are all his, Part his or mostly coaching. I'm waiting to decide after the year.

I'm happy to see how sober this board is, not too high on Fields nor too low on Fields/high on Caleb Williams.

Great idea for a thread. I talked about my own Fields-o-Meter before but you put it on screen.
For me, obviously I was down on him the first 3 weeks and deservedly so as he was a bottom-5 QB in the league then. The last 2 weeks he's been night-and-day different and looks like a QB the "light is coming on for".
Is this a sign he's ascending and heading for a breakout year? Or is it just a flash in the pan against some bad defenses?
I don't know. The next 12 games are critical. The next 12 games determine Fields' future career trajectory and Poles' choice of paths forward for the team.
Right now, I'm in the HOPEFUL BUT UNCONVINCED category. I'm really hoping JF will convince me. I want to believe.
If he can establish himself as a clear top-10 QB this season, it's game on for us. We go all-in this offseason with 2 FRPs plus a ton of cap space and we start being a consistent playoff team in 2024.
Why isn’t there a choice like “I wouldn’t bet the farm on him, but I’m not drafting a QB, unless he implodes in these last 12 games.” ?? That’s where I’m at, and doesn’t quite fit any of the choices offered.

That's very much where I am at too. The next 12 games are critical. If Fields does establish himself as a clear top-10 QB this season, and the team can go all-in this offseason with the 2 FRPs plus a ton of cap space, does that mean Eberflus should stay as the HC? I'm thinking that even if Fields checks all the boxes in these 12 games, the team itself is probably a .500 win team at best, and probably not quite at that level. Or, do you think the team turns over the coaching staff and the new HC has to be a Fields guy? I ask because I can see it's not out of the realm of possibility that Fields does check all the boxes this season. Not saying it will happen but that it very well could happen. So, what happens to 'Flus in that scenario?
