This is not even close. Most probably not in the top 25 trades/picks. More like top 100.

In need of more help for quarterback Justin Fields last season, Bears general manager Ryan Poles acquired Claypool from the Pittsburgh Steelers on Nov. 1 for a 2023 second-round pick that ended up being the No. 32 pick in the draft.

Claypool took a long time to assimilate to the offense in 2022 and totaled just 14 catches for 140 yards in seven games. He had four catches on 14 targets for 51 yards and a touchdown in three games this season.

“You’re always disappointed in this situation, and it’s definitely something I take ownership of,” Poles said on the team’s pregame radio show Thursday.

While we are counting mistakes, what’s your impression of Stevenson? He was terrible again in the Commanders game. I hope Poles isn’t counting on him as a starting CB in 2024.

He looks like a rookie out there. He makes some good plays and his share of bad ones. He clearly has a lot of work to do as he transitions to the NFL. I went back and read his college play grades and noticed he improved quite a bit each season. Hopefully we see this in the NFL with him. His scouting report before the draft had his ceiling as "average starter at the NFL level." But he does remind me of a young Peanut Tillman. He is similar to him I think. I thought Tillman was a solid CB, although he only made the Pro Bowl (first team) once during his career. That's where I see Stevenson's ceiling potential - Peanut Tillman.

Peanut did too (I personally watched him cost us a game at Soldier Field... he pissed me off so much that day... you could have fried an egg on my head as I was leaving Soldier Field that day). Rookies are gonna rookie. There is no getting around that fact. There is a learning curve for these kids coming out of college and it takes time to climb that learning curve. Some transition faster than others. But they all have some rough play. Some end up not being able to surmount the learning curve and they fail. But others improve, especially in that 2nd and 3rd season. Even the great Walter Payton had rookie struggles at times... one of the greatest players ever to play the game, and he cried like a baby after his first game - ashamed of his performance that day. Rookies are gonna rookie.

Dick Butkus and Gale Sayers were the #3 and #4 OVERALL picks in the draft. Both top 5 picks. Top 5 picks are EXPECTED to be great. Stevenson is a second rounder. Quite the difference in draft capital and therefore, expectations.

I agree. And Ric has persuaded me to wait another year on Stevenson. But, from what I’ve seen, I am doubtful about him. Wouldn’t you say eventual “solid starter” is the expectation for a second round pick, and we should see that potential in year #2?
