I was surprised because the last public appearances I saw of him, he looked really healthy. He sure was a great guy off the field as well as a player. Sad that Sayers died two years ago and now Butkus. They were two of the most amazing NFL players I've ever seen play. Both were drafted in the 1965 draft. Both drafted in the same round (1st round, picks #3, and #4). Back-to-back hall of famers drafted by the same team in the same year in the same draft round. Pretty cool.
Both played on horrific Bears teams. It was a shame.
