His first and only big signing last year in FA was a DT, who failed the physical and cost the team their ability to put big money into other day 1 players. He tried, just like this year, to get def help in FA and early draft, he just failed.
Right. This thread should be the Flush Poles/Flus thread. Pace/Nagy team was fired together, and so should Poles/Flus. They collaborated to make this dumpster fire. And, yeah, I know I wrote the word “should” again. Apologies.
I was going to do a separate thread to axe Poles but was more upset with flus at the time and haven't gotten around to it yet.
I am hoping that the hiring of Warren was an effort by George McCaskey to really hand day t0 day operational control (including hiring and firing of GMs, coaching staff, etc) under his exclusive control. Because, if he does not have that freedom, I believe the Bears will never become a successful franchise until ownership changes.
Chuck, that is where I am at on all of this. Last and only hope for this franchise is that President/CEO Kevin Warren has full control, and the executive skills to change the course of the Chicago Bears franchise that has been off-course for decades now.
Warren doesn't have to be a low-level expert on scouting or coaching even... but rather be a great executive who can bring in the right people who DO know these things well. Ted Phillips did not have that gift, and certainly the "Family" does not have it. Not even close.
Regarding Warren, as an executive bringing in the right people, it reminds me of CEO's in other professions. For instance Eli Lilly, David Ricks. He seems like a brilliant executive but he isn't in the lab concocting the various pharmaceuticals that give the business half a trillion dollars of market cap. No. He just needs to be sharp enough to bring in the right people who CAN do the things needed. That's what I see (hope) Warren doing with the Bears franchise. Bring in the best people. Until he shows he's a failure, I'm going to hold on to the hope that he CAN be an effective exec here. It will be fascinating to see who stays, and who leaves for 2024. I have no clue at this point. But I'm pumped to find out what happens.

Poles has done more long-term damage than Flus. This pitiful roster he will leave behind, especially the defense, will be awaiting the new coach.

I am with you on hoping Warren is the guy we want him to be, need him to be. If during this process of reworking the coaches or the GM and the coaches, I see or hear of either Ted Philips and/or Bill Polian being involved in any manner, I will throw up. Because, IMO, it signals the same old same old, and nothing will really change.
I'm more worried that the 2 rookie DT can't get any time. Are they that bad that they can't get 50% of the snaps on this DEF? Is that talent or coaching?

This whole damn defensive line has two sacks. One of them was actually set up by a blitz from Jack Sanborn. Ravens are getting sacks by blitzing Hamilton. Seahawks got sacks by Blitzing Witherspoon. Eberflus stubbornly insists on rushing only 4 guys and laying back in a soft zone with the other 7. No wonder we have the record for consecutive games giving up 25+ points. Eberflus scheme worked with the Colts because he had the players to execute on it. Now he doesn’t, but refuses to even try to adjust….rush 5….blitz… do something.
