To be fair, that's on Poles too. He completely ignored the D in the 2022 off season and didn't go after any big name FAs this year. What exactly is Coach Eberflus supposed to do w/ the lack of talent on the defensive side? Hard to be successful w/ one of the weakest front sevens in the league.
I wouldn't call the Ngakoue signing a big acquisition considering this is now his sixth team in nine seasons. There's a reason why no other team had gone after him and he was still available in August. He's been a major disappointment and one of the reasons we can't put pressure on QBs.

Sure, but if coaches knew how to use him... which they dont. Nobody has been playing not even close to their best.

It looks like nobody in the NFL wanted Ngakoue except the Bears. I can now see why.

Oh cmon jabf, not like other teams are rocket scientists

+1 It looks to me like Ngakoue isn't a bad player. But he seems very limited in what he brings to the table. At some point (after the new GM/coaches fix the offense) the Bears need to invest some 1st round picks in pass rushers with legit talent. Guys that opposing offenses have to game plan around. And ideally you want more than one great DL guy. Those are 1st round picks, and probably top half of the first round picks. But unfortunately the Bears need a franchise QB, 3 or 4 starting OL guys, and a top-tier WR to go with D.J. Moore. Moore looks like a VERY good wide receiver to me, but doesn't look like an elite talent to me. Claypool and Mooney are JAGs... just guys who need to be upgraded with better talent.
So when you do the math, you realize the team needs 5 or 6 first round picks to make that happen... obviously that will take a few years to accomplish at best. And that is assuming the team actually picks the right players rather than busts. But assuming they do draft the best talent (no misses) I still think it will take until 2026 to have the team where it needs to be. That would be 3 drafts (and 4 first round picks).
When I watch the best teams play now, it is sobering to see how much better their roster talent is than the Bears. Those rosters don't just have a few studs. Those rosters are loaded with talent... even their depth players who step up to replace injured starters look better to me than some of our starters. Yeah, it is stunning to see our team perform after watching "the big boys" play "real" NFL football with legit studs... and legit good coaching staffs.

We don't have any of that.
I couldn't agree more with you. You make very valid points.
When I started watching the wheels come off as the season started, it looked to me like the chief problem was the coaches. Everything I've seen so far only reinforces that opinion.
With Poles, I am not sure how to evaluate his performance. None of us know how much priority Eberflus had in the scouting and acquisition if new players, either as FAs or in the draft. That's a decision that Warren will have to make.
But one thing I do know, we cannot discount the influence (meddling?) by ownership. If WindyCityGridiron writer Bill Zimmerman is accurate with his recent tweet on it, Poles was given a shortlist of HC candidates with Eberflus at the top of the list. If you go through the comments on the tweet, Zimmerman follows up with that the list was given to hm by Bill Polian. I would urge anyone reading this to open the tweet and expand and read all the comments. There is a lot of information from Zimmerman that I found enlightening on the comments.
Remember that Polian was one of the architects of the Pace/Fox fiasco. He has been a relatively long-term advisor to the Bears organization and has a close working relationship with Ted Phillips. IMO, this puts the fingerprints of Polian and Phillips all over the hiring of Poles (and Eberflus).
I am hoping that the hiring of Warren was an effort by George McCaskey to really hand day t0 day operational control (including hiring and firing of GMs, coaching staff, etc) under his exclusive control. Because, if he does not have that freedom, I believe the Bears will never become a successful franchise until ownership changes.

His first and only big signing last year in FA was a DT, who failed the physical and cost the team their ability to put big money into other day 1 players. He tried, just like this year, to get def help in FA and early draft, he just failed.
Right. This thread should be the Flush Poles/Flus thread. Pace/Nagy team was fired together, and so should Poles/Flus. They collaborated to make this dumpster fire. And, yeah, I know I wrote the word “should” again. Apologies.
