Can he see an open receiver downfield and get the damn ball out quickly and accurately on a consistent basis on those occasions? It doesn’t matter who the players are or who the coaches are in order for us to see whether or not that’s happening.
If the wr is open but not where he is supposed to be when he is supposed to be there, no.
And he was playing against guys that aren't playing in the NFL right now, against defs that aren't doing anything to trick or confuse or necessarily pressure him. So we don't know what he can do, bc pre season numbers are bs.
+1 Bagent, at this point, is nothing more than a preseason hero. Like so many preseason heroes we've seen - that proves exactly zero. He isn't even coming from a D1 program where he would have at least faced some semblance of D talent. LOL, he played for the mighty "Shepherd Rams" of the (wait for it) PSAC Conference... I had to look that up, Ric. It is a state conference. The enrollment of some of those opposing schools are like my high school class enrollment here in Bloomington. Bagent played against teams like Millersville, East Stroudsburg, Bloomsburg... LOL, what makes Bears fans think this kid is ready now to face real NFL talent in regular season games? It all seems so crazy to think that after seeing so many high 1st round QB fail (from legit bigtime football programs from universities in bigtime conferences) - that we now believe this guy can be football ready now for starting for an NFL team. It just seems like we should wait for now and not start this kid. Maybe give him time to adjust to the NFL before we trot him out - on this present Bears team with these coaches and players that we presently have here.
You couldn't get anything for Fields anyways so you're better off letting his play continue a few more weeks, benching him for a few weeks and see what happens w/the next guy, then hoping Fields can get back on the field and play better.
Yeah there's so much invested in JF that I have no problem giving him whatever time is needed to exhaust every last ounce of hope.
We weren't a contender this year anyway and ending up with a high pick isn't a bad thing considering what's coming this offseason, unless Fields pulls a miracle turnaround.
I'm ALREADY seeing articles and videos pop up with 2024 Bears mock drafts and QB scouting reports. Normally it takes until Halloween before I have given up on these clowns; this year it's happening in September.
As an aside, how would you like to be DJ Moore? The guy has the worst luck in the NFL. His QBs have been Broken down Cam Newton, Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, PJ Walker, and Justin Fields. He's never once got to play with a top-10 passer.
I am really reaching but say we go 2-5 to 0-7. I would explore JF's trade market and see if there is a willing & desperate GM willing to trade a 1st for him.
You have a better chance of winning the lottery this week than Bagent being ready this week. Seriously.
I've never claimed Bagent was ready to start this week. Not once. But he's going to have to start soon. And again, if we were all so ready and sure he was better than Peterman and ready to be QB#2 than I can't understand why a few weeks from now he can't step in and start or relieve Fields in the second half of a game.
If he is ready to play as #2 then he's ready to prepare to play as the #1.
That is all I'm saying.
I get it. Not trying to be difficult here at all. But the Bears presently (on their official depth chart) have Bagent as QB3. Peterman is QB2. Ideally, I would like to see Bagent, later in the season, get a few series of work in one game. Then evaluate what he did and go from there. If he looks good (and he could) then maybe give him a start. He is nothing more (right now) than a project player. Making him the starting QB of an NFL team at this point seems about as crazy as us making Airese Currie WR1 after his heroics in the preseason that he too was a training camp hero. Keep in mind that when we were all hyped on this guy in camp/PS we were thinking we had a much improve OL, WR unit - and solid coaching. Obviously, instead, we have real problems there. I'm not comfortable with him being QB2 now... not in this circus clown show. Trot Peterman out there at some point and maybe late in the season we can have the kid play quarterback in a series... if he does okay, then maybe a couple of series. Evaluate his play after that game. Maybe he showcases he merits a start this year. I'm not saying we have to do the Mahomes or Aaron Rodgers thing and let him learn his craft for a year or more. Although learning behind a vet in those cases was successful, right? And I am convinced that both of those QBs would have failed if they came to Chicago and got shuffled out to start in this clown show day-1 too.
I don't know. I can't quite get my head around throwing this kid in now when we don't HAVE to. Why throw him into the deep end of the pool when in all likelihood he hasn't even been taught to swim yet. Why? Just to watch another guy drown here? He is a project. Not a starter. JMHO.
Purdy is an exception to the rule, but also has a better coaching staff and better players around him. Purdy isn't doing in Chicago what he's doing in SF.
Exactly. Us fans find one exception and we think it is the rule. It's not. It's like you know a guy who wins the lottery, and you sell your home and buy a bazillion lottery tickets and sit back in your hotel room (with your pissed wife and kids) waiting for your "win" that week. LOL. And you end up with enough "winnings" to pay for your hotel that week. SMH. Exceptions are exceptions.
Furious front office fires men. Not this cammomilla stuff, waiting for offseason. Thats like a thing only in NFL. And its something that has not aged well, cmon. Move it move it move it (capt Harris, police academy)

I am saying the WRs are running correct routes. Getting to right place at right time, and he has pass protection. Can he see open receivers and get the ball to them accurately, timely, consistently?
If I don’t see evidence of that from Fields/Bagent in these last 15 games, then I’d draft a QB in 2024.

I think we should draft QB in rd1 next year no matter what. And let him sit.
