You couldn't get anything for Fields anyways so you're better off letting his play continue a few more weeks, benching him for a few weeks and see what happens w/the next guy, then hoping Fields can get back on the field and play better.
Yeah there's so much invested in JF that I have no problem giving him whatever time is needed to exhaust every last ounce of hope.
We weren't a contender this year anyway and ending up with a high pick isn't a bad thing considering what's coming this offseason, unless Fields pulls a miracle turnaround.
I'm ALREADY seeing articles and videos pop up with 2024 Bears mock drafts and QB scouting reports. Normally it takes until Halloween before I have given up on these clowns; this year it's happening in September.
As an aside, how would you like to be DJ Moore? The guy has the worst luck in the NFL. His QBs have been Broken down Cam Newton, Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, PJ Walker, and Justin Fields. He's never once got to play with a top-10 passer.

Ric, that's my take on the situation too. This talk about benching Fields and putting Bagent in right now seems nuts to me. Maybe later in the season when Jenkins is back... and Jenkins could be back in what, 3 more games or so? Then get Whitehair back at center and Patrick out of there. And the entire OL should be better with those 5. Obviously not a great OL, but at least somewhat decent OL.
If the fans do pressure to see Bagent start, I could see Eberflus tossing him into a game just so the fans could see a "bug hitting a windshield" failure. Not because the kid can't play well. But rather because the kid should have SOME time before starting. We talk often here about giving a kid some time to learn the game, and not starting right away. But (some) Bears fans want to see the shiny toy immediately play now. SMH. Bagent is really nothing more (at this early point) than a "training camp/preseason hero. A QB version of guys like Airese Currie. Who fans thought was going to be the next superstar Bear WR, after being a similar TC/PS star. LOL, and instead he never caught a single regular season pass in his (brief) NFL career. I think he lasted 2 seasons after that in the CFL and couldn't even cut it at THAT level.
Fans are so delusional.
And what would you have said about Purdy at this same time last season? You might have called him a training camp/preseason hero instead of a guy who has the talent to shoot lights out from day-1. The fact is, you never know for sure what any rookie QB can do until you put him on the field. But again, I don’t mind giving it some more time with Fields before testing Bagent at some later point this season.
We wanted Begent to be QB2 which means he was going to be literally one snap from entering a game totally unprepared having gotten extremely limited snaps with the ones.
But now we don't want him getting in there because he isn't ready. If he isn't ready now, he wasn't ready to be QB2. If he was ready to be QB2 than he should be ready to step into an game even the Chiefs and with a week to prepare, move into the starting lineup.
Welcome to Chicago where QB2 is more popular than QB1. Viva el jefe Peter Tim Willis!!!
And I know this is splitting hairs. LOL, but I'll split some anyway. I think I am more comfortable with Bagent coming in as a backup to finish a game where QB1 gets injured. Or even if he has to play a few games until QB1 returns. I know, it's still not ideal. But that is different than pulling the plug on Fields and making this kid QB1.
I think the ideal situation would be to bring in the QB2, Peterman (he is currently listed as QB2 on our depth chart). Maybe if Peterman is elevated to QB1 then let Bagent get a "series" in a game. Then evaluate his effort and maybe you give him a few more series in another game. Don't put too much on him - but - he gets a taste of a real NFL game against real NFL defenses... not the preseason stuff that simply isn't real.

David, that is all I am saying. And remember, the Bears now list Peterman as QB2 on the official depth chart. It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out.

Purdy is an exception to the rule, but also has a better coaching staff and better players around him. Purdy isn't doing in Chicago what he's doing in SF.

I agree, but that’s irrelevant to my point.
Can he see an open receiver downfield and get the damn ball out quickly and accurately on a consistent basis on those occasions? It doesn’t matter who the players are or who the coaches are in order for us to see whether or not that’s happening.

I appreciate that you can see that fine of a line but I can't. Either we think Bagent is ready or he isn't. If he's ready to be #2 them IMO he's as ready for Chris Jones and Arrowhead as any #2 on the planet. If he not ready for Chris Jones and Arrowhead then we had no business getting frustrated with Peterman at #2.
Now does Bagent have more unseen potential than Peterman? Yes. Good Lord yes. But at some.ppont this season, and maybe sooner rather than later, we'll need to see Bagent. If he breaks, he breaks. More likely than not he is not Purdy. He's Peter Tim Willis. Sign another one next year. He's only going to be the greatest college QB statistically for a year or so anyway the way QB stats are trending in college. At one point that QB from Hawaii was the greatest college QB statistically ever.

If the wr is open but not where he is supposed to be when he is supposed to be there, no.
And he was playing against guys that aren't playing in the NFL right now, against defs that aren't doing anything to trick or confuse or necessarily pressure him. So we don't know what he can do, bc pre season numbers are bs.
I appreciate that you can see that fine of a line but I can't. Either we think Bagent is ready or he isn't.
You have a better chance of winning the lottery this week than Bagent being ready this week. Seriously.
I've never claimed Bagent was ready to start this week. Not once. But he's going to have to start soon. And again, if we were all so ready and sure he was better than Peterman and ready to be QB#2 than I can't understand why a few weeks from now he can't step in and start or relieve Fields in the second half of a game.
If he is ready to play as #2 then he's ready to prepare to play as the #1.
