Good news is we have Tyson tied for 3 years + 4th RFA
Is Bagent the next Purdy? Who knows? We may as well find out now. Nothing to lose. Even on a bad team, a good QB can show potential. Stroud was almost killed last week (6 sacks!) but still threw for 384 yards. So, if Bagent has the goods, we should be able to see signs.
GG was convinced this was a nine or ten win team. So this is s pretty strong pull back from him
A lot of us were fooled. I was watching a guy who sets odds today. He put it succinctly , “I thought the Bears would be decent this season. They’re not.”

I think you give Fields till roughly midseason. If he hasn't executed a major turnaround by then, the season is over anyway (we will be ~ 2-6) and you have your definitive answer that he's not the guy.
I think you give Bagent 4-6 starts late in the year to see what you have and get his feet wet in a no pressure situation. Hopefully you have found a solid #2 backup guy for the future.
Unlikely, but maybe just maybe he can become a Purdy 2.0

Yeah, he's usually like a Bears cheerleader. When you've lost Gabriel you've really bad.
It's pretty hard to exaggerate how bad Fields has been so far. Yes, I know his OC is part of the problem but I would have never guessed JF would be this bad regardless of that.
Right now, Fields looks like Kaepernick did after the league figured him out -- completely lost and hopeless as a passer. I went to a game once here in AZ where Kap threw 4 INTs, including 2 pick-6s, in 3 quarters.
Fields right now has 2 pick-6s, 4 total INTs, and 3 fumbles while throwing 200 ypg and a 60% completion rate mostly on screens. His rating is 70.
That's way worse than I remember Mitch's 2019 nosedive being.

It's unreal and almost unbelievable. If I didn't know better I'd say he was tanking on purpose to get out of Chicago or had gambling debts. That's how bad he has been.
The only logical explanation I can fully accept is that the coaching staff have beat all his talent out of him. Similar to what Fox started doing to Mitch (never take a risk and never turn the ball over). If that is what is emphasized time and time again, in my mind it explains his unwillingness to let it fly.
We know he can play, he did it in college and plenty of good QBs who played at a high level on elite teams have made the jump. But he just seems so timid. He's playing football like I play basketball--afraid to shoot, throwing weak passes because Im afraid to turn the ball over etc.

Hoge pointed out in his postgame vid that even the completions over the middle to Claypool were shit throws. I noticed it on TV too -- they were wobblers, slow and late.
