One thing I hope we don't see this season is Fields running as much as last year. Sure, make some plays here and there in games. Just don't make that a main part of your game. If Fields does that this year then Bagent will be our QB and Fields will be on IR. The tragedy in that is that we could end up with another year of not really knowing what we have in Fields (if he's IR'd earlier in the season and we don't get to see what he can do this year). Then do you draft a QB in 2024? Do we need one? I'd hate to draft a QB with our 1st pick of the draft next year if our problem is not the QB. But who will even know, if Fields is hurt and doesn't play much this year? Fields needs this year to be focused on showcasing a passing game talent. Not just showcasing he can be a RB in the league.
Everyone fully agree Fields has to take that next step in the passing game. No doubt about it.
But I think he's still gonna run a fair amount too. It's an elite part of his game that gives defenses fits and him running or the threat thereof will open a lot more opportunities in the passing game this year. You can bet opposing DCs are gonna be very reluctant to not account for him.
And now he finally has decent receiving options to exploit that.
I think we are saying the same thing, MP. Definitely have that run-tool in your toolbox. But don't make the tool your entire toolbox. Definitely use it. Be strategic with it. And definitely scare the bejabbers out of opposing DCs because they know you have this, and they must account for it.

Even if there are not as many designed runs as last year, Fields is going to make his own decision to run on 3rd down if there’s no immediate receiver open. That’s his natural tendency. Josh Allen runs the ball. Jalen Hurts runs the ball. Lamar Jackson runs the ball. So will Fields whether we like it or not.

Just saying any fan who thinks JF1 is gonna become some Peyton/Brees/Brady type of statue precision pocket passer is probably gonna end up disappointed. He definitely has to improve in the pocket no question but getting him moving and out on the edges is where he is gonna make hay.
Getsy needs to mix in a few rollouts and a couple designed runs every game just to keep the defense worrying. This is a big year for Getsy just like it is for Fields. If he can produce a much improved O, he will get looks for a HC job. If not, he will probably get fired.

My point is that you need to have more than just that run threat. Josh Allen put up 13,234 passing yards the past 3 seasons - 108 touchdown passes. He is not just a "running guy" because the dude has the full tool belt of tools to use. And he uses them well. Fields' passing numbers are not Josh Allen passing numbers.

Good analogy, JABF.
I don't want Fields trying to run guys over like Allen does but yeah his style of passing game is what I think Fields would be well suited for.

If Fields is successful, running will remain an important tool in his box. With better players surrounding him this year, the passing yards will naturally increase. I don’t worry about that at all, and I’m sticking with my 27 ppg prediction. The D is a different story, however.

It's sure going to be fascinating to watch what actually does happen with Fields this year. I am pretty positive about his chances of being a much-improved QB this year - a more complete QB. I'm hopeful but also wanting to see it actually happen. The OL has sure been hurt with the injuries - with all the lineup changes and flipping guys around on the line. And losing Jenkins on IR is a big hit to the unit also. And Wright looks like he could be great, but he won't be great his rookie season. At best I expect a Brax-like season (a mix of good and bad... that's what rookies do). The OL woes could lower the ceiling on Fields this season. It could lower it a lot.
