The beauty of the situation is that by the end of the season we will have had 6 games total to see what we have in Barkley. That is huge. The remaining games will be against playoff caliber teams too. It's a perfect opportunity to "test drive" Barkley. At the very least it looks like we may have a solid young backup QB. No small thing. And at best we may have a solid staring QB. It's a great opportunity here.
Of course they should draft a QB towards the top of the draft. Barkley may be playing decent but he's not the long term answer. I still hope they draft a QB next year and the following year.
Yes. I like what I see but what has Barkley done so far except beat the worst defense in the NFL on a day when they had almost zero for an offense either. I'll give him credit for a nice 2nd half against Tennessee but they rather stupidly played soft zones and prevent stuff against him making it easy and they damn near lost because of it. If he beats Detroit, GB, and Minny then we can talk long term deal ok?
They need about 6 QB prospects competing for a starters job and IMHO Hoyer shouldn't be one of them. If they're bound and determined to move on from the past then Hoyer is another part of the past that didn't work. There'll be another ration of vagabond vets just like him out there next year so sign one, draft one, find an UDFA, get Shaw up and running, sign Barkely, and then get something in return for Cutler if one of these guy can take over.
Even if all he does it play well in the next several games I'll be happy.

Hope Barkley Plays good, can stay and stays as starter. We draft a QB and let him learn behind Barkley (assuming he isn't beating him out in Camp). If both are good, you have 2 Young QBs with value around the league.
If nothing else, we know that a QB can net a few nice draft picks via trade.
Barkley is a FA at the end of the season so the Bears would have to re sign him.
I have thought about that fact. If he does well these last 4 games against good teams, then that is good for us (definitely) but he will cost us more to get under a new contract. It's still may be worth it, even if he's no more than a solid backup for us. With Jay gone, we will have freed up cash at the QB position.
