I'm a little confused by what Poles is doing with the Edmunds signing. So much for the idea that he "doesn't spend on off-ball LBs".
Edmunds is an excellent player and I wanted him in the draft years ago but not sure I would have spent big bucks on him.
Are we planning on running a 0-3 defense? Cuz we have 3 good LBs but 0 starting caliber DLs. ZERO
My best guess that Poles has names and maxx prices next to it. and it seems that (esp) RTs are getting too high. We have a very late 2nd rounder and im not sure we can get a decent RT over there, maybe yes... DE we need to get with no.9
They could look at a right side with Davis and Jenkins. Always possible they see it like this. It's still months to go with lots of FAs, Draft and cuts. Don't worry now.
We'll see what happens when all is said and done, so far it looks like the money was spend good. Let's see what we can draft and help with the DL and secondary. Have a feeling this is the biggest need we need to fill.

Thats what im thinking. Have no idea what is their plan with Jenkins, Leatherwood, Borom or Carter. Maybe they see 1 more starter there beside Jenkins. Same thing with Gipson and Robinson on DL, maybe they see a sure starter there. Have no idea, gonna trust the process, at least for da whole 2023.
Not all is lost FA wise! Brown or McGary at RT would be awesome Ngakoue on DL, what about Ford or Clowney ? TBH I like Arden Key and our old pal Leonard Floyd too.

Yikes! Both those guys are unproven 5th rounders. Gipson did "start" much of the 2022 season and he sucked. Robinson had a nice week 1 game then went on a milk carton for 4 months.
If Poles considers either of them "sure starters", I'd have to question his sanity. Backups fine, not front-line DEs.

McGary is my least favorite of what were the FA OTs. He only had one good year in Atlanta and was a poor pass protector. Even though he's a good run blocker, Justin Fields is the higher priority IMO.
Key would be a nice pickup for edge. I don't see anything left that's worth getting for 3-tech.
BTW, we have these types of debates every year when there's major moves made or not made that seem "odd" or hard to understand. And it seemingly always boils down to one of two results with the answer coming down the road as time plays out of course.
The first possible result is that whatever move was made or not made turns out to be nothing to be concerned about and our GM had a good strategic plan looking out two steps ahead and executed it well.
The second, we find out later, is that our GM is one of those guys who passes on conventional wisdom because he's convinced he's the "smartest guy in the room" and you'll just see, he's gonna be proven a genius.
I hope Ryan Poles doesn't turn into that 2nd guy. Conventional wisdom would tell you to add a weapon or two for your young QB and build the trenches at this point. It would definitely NOT say "put together a kickass off-the-ball-LB group after drafting 2 DBs last year".

That's a good way of putting it, MP. And I do agree with that. I just have to see more unfold before I do a final judgement on all of this. I am trying really hard to not react either way too much. Not yet.

Right now I'd give Poles a clear "A" for his handling of the #1 pick trade situation but a "D+/C-" for FA thus far.
I had hoped to go A-A. Guess that was asking too much. It shouldn't have been given the resources he had, but apparently offering just a smidge more for Dre'Mont Jones was somehow too big a mental leap for Poles to make. I don't get that kind of thinking at all. Having that type of extra leverage is exactly WHY you suffer thru a teardown year and clear out your dead cap.

Have absolutely no idea if we were in for Jones or not, but if we were - its a def fail, guy didnt get a monster contract tbh
