You will never identitfy that once in a generation player. Thats not how it works. You identify the qb that you think best fits what you want to do...or the highest skilled qb and you draft them and hope they are that generational qb.
While I admire your optimism, at best he'll be Cutler and they'll be Goff/Lynch/Hackenburg/Kessler/Grayson/Mannion. There are no guarantees in the draft, no matter what motm believes. At worst he'll be Cutler and the rookie will be Manizel.
Cutler is a known not good enough and your assumtions are just that. They could also be brady rodgers wilson and marriotta. Only difference is on group is an unkown and one is. You can lose with cutler or at worst you could lose with a rookie qb or at best win with one.
Re-reading what I type, I didn't make a lot of sense did I. Got distracted while typing. Let me try again:
At his best, Cutler will still be Cutler (1.7 turnovers a game I believe) while we could get a Wilson/Rogers/Marriotta. Cutler could still be Cutler and the draft picks could be Goff/Lynch/Hackenburg/Kessler/Grayson/Mannion. No guarantees.
and that still doesn't say what I want it to say..have I been drinking?
So, you're right, they could be Rogers, wilson or marriotta..and isn't that your assumption? That anyone could be the same or better? What makes your assumption better than anyone elses? By the way I'm on record as wanting Cutler gone, just search this board. But I'm also willing to recognize what some around here won't...the Bears could end up a lot worse. Is that a reason to hang onto Cutler..nope. If you want to improve the position, you have to take a risk. But lets recognize that there is a risk that we end up worse.

Not always true. It was certainly true for Brady, but everyone saw Peyton Manning coming. It just depends.

Not true, remember the big talk was do you take Peyton(who hadn't won the big games in college) or do you take Ryan Leaf. Ryan f'n leaf was considered a legit option instead of Peyton.
People didn't see it w/a lot of the recent greats, Brady, Rogers, Steve Young(didn't get drafted to the pro's), Farve.

My assumption has been, for awhile, that a rookie qb taken high(first 3 rounds) are not necessarily going to be worse then what Cutler has been. The biggest flaw about cutler is that he still makes a lot of stupid mistakes, which is what you will get out of a rookie; but a rookie CAN get better, where Cutler never will.
Here's the other thing, I don't think having Cutler in the QB room helps a rookie.

Maybe that's true. Guess I'm just going by myself. I think that was one of my only times I got it right. I never really considered Leaf. One of the few times I missed an opportunity to get it wrong.

I was w/you, I thought Manning was as close to a sure fire thing as there was, and he ended up being that; but you don't wait on drafting a qb until your in a position to hopefully get that guy it's just to rare to happen and there are plenty of other guys you can get inbetween them. Eli, Romo, Rogers, Big Ben, Rivers, Flacco, etc. Not all are going to be that all time great, but some will, and some will be more then good enough to win with. Cutler has proven he's not so there is zero reason to keep him.
Btw, 670 had a guy text in that had #'s about pitchers that have this surgery have a very small chance of ever playing again, and if they do they aren't likely to ever have the velocity they used to. So chances are that Cutler might not even be able to play, and if he does he won't have that arm he's so used to relying on. Maybe that's a good thing, maybe that makes him even worse then he is, maybe he doesn't ever play.

That's probably bad. Really bad. Zebras can't change their stripes. His mindset is that he can put it anywhere. And look at how many INTs he gets now that he CAN actually put it anywhere. Think of Hoyer with a Cutler mentality. A train wreck in the making.
No one is ever gonna agree on this or come to a common consensus. Some of it's on Jay, some on a revolving door of OCs and offensive attacks, some on a lack of suitable personnel, and some of it is about playing on some very shitty teams for some of the worst HCs in the history of the Chicago Bears. You can assign percentages how ever you like.
Whatever the reasons you subscribe to personally overall the relationship Cutler has in Chicago all the way around has soured become dysfunctional and another option has to be considered for both his sake and that of the team. This isn't about pouting or being over paid or any other BS nonsense excuse some love to cling to. This is about being a poor fit.
When the Bears decide to move on what I will hold them responsible for though is bringing in or drafting a QB who is actually better than Cutler and an offensive tactician who can win with him or we'll wasted another decade just as we have the last with Grossman and Cutler. It's not even half as easy as most believe it is but like an older car that needs work sometimes it's best to simply stop trying to fix what won't stay fixed and get a new one.
Do I trust them to do this? No, quite frankly I don't and I have history on my side. But I think by now the cards have all been played and whether Fox stays or goes either he or the new HC will in all likelihood want to try someone else and I'm not expecting much immediate success from that either. Even a new OC may prefer to start fresh than to try and pick up where Gase left off. So now matter how you slice it Fox now has a better chance of being HC in 2017 than Jay does of being our QB.
As for me, apathy is ruling my zodiac right now so I don't really give a crap what they do until they get rid of Phillips and hire an NFL qualified VP of Football Operations to run the team. Until then I can't see much of anything changing that isn't the same old "window dressing" the McCaskey's have been throwing at us for 30 years and I'm close to the end of my rope with that. This whole approach of theirs throws shovel fulls of dirt on any optimism I might have.
