I was watching CHGO pod/you tube yesterday with Carm and Moreano. They did an OL breakdown which was a lot of stuff we all know about the top guys. But it made me see the wisdom of taking PJJ at #9 even more. Damn he's a good OT prospect and and solid, high-floor character guy. First round OTs also have a history of surprising success in the NFL. Meaning that they tend to bust at a lower rate than other positions do.
All in all, seems to me there's a powerful case to stay at #9 and draft him.
Now if he's off the board already and/or someone offers a good trade down deal, then sure you gotta consider it seriously. I could see an scenario where a QB (Richardson or Levis) makes it to #9 and some team wants to get him just like we did when Fields fell to #11.
Washington seems like a promising candidate but not the only one. I want Sweat in that deal. I'll give Wash the #9 pick for Sweat and the #16 pick. Especially if Bears really like Skoronski and Broderick Jones as I think decent shot one of them makes it the mid-1st.
I am still saying 99% that it will be Johnson. I can imagine them taking Skoronski, but Johnson is better prospect than Skoronski at RT. I would even take Broderick Jones over him at RT.
I would only trade down farther if some foolish GM made a stupid offer.

Just as an aside...cause I know the PJJ love is at a high right now. If he was this sure thing, no brainer, stud left tackle...why would he be available at 9?

There are no sure thing players drafted. I hear that "sure thing" term thrown around every year. I've seen so many of those guys bust over the past 60+ years that it downright irritates me to see a player anointed as one anymore. Yes, there are players who have an extremely high probability to transition as a star NFL player. But no sure thing guys. Just my personal opinion.
Regarding PJJ, he may or may not be there at #9. We don't know how the draft will break for us. At least I don't. LOL, I'm glad I'm not Poles and having to figure this one out... I'd be laying awake at night in cold sweats over this pick :-)

He won't be. 3 maybe 4 qb's go, EDGE/DT/CB will all somwhere between those qb's and 9; but there are 4 teams ahead of the Bears that need OL help and not all of them need qb's, or will get one. One will take who they see as the top OT. So unless someone determines PS is the top OT then PJJ is gone.
Edge or CB are my guess at 9, unless some team is dumb enough to take a RB in the top 10.

Never doubt the stupidity of NFL teams, coaches, and front offices.

Ooo....Ooo, I know, I know.. Call on me. LOL
More than likely due to 4 QBs and maybe twice that many QB hungry teams pushing him down a bit plus guys like Anderson, Carter (possibly), Skoronski, Wilson. At any rate Dane Brugler has him spotted at #9 as the 9th best player in the draft so it fits.
He's not the single best LT to ever be available but he's good enough to be a fit for the Bears if he's who Poles wants to draft. JMHO of course.
EDIT: In addition my thinking is that while even highly drafted players can fail when drafted by the wrong teams playing systems in which they don't fit I don't see much chance of that with PJJ. He fits and with the current coaching staff and the culture the Bears have now he should work out just fine.
