Yeah...I go back and forth on the arm thing. I might be concerned if they were going to have him play left tackle...but I think it may not be as big a deal on the right side. I know Cory Wooton has great things to say about him, and Skoronski has gone up against a bunch of these dudes that were and will be drafted in the first round and more than held his own...so I don't know. But your point is not lost for sure. I went back and forth on whether to take Van Ness or him...coin flip to me.
Ya i'm just going on trends, the no starting OT has less then 33 currently says a lot, but 1/2 in doesn't seem like a huge deal. I'm also not a GM/Scout so I really won't fight much about it.
But I'm not sure I'd take him in the top 10; definitely think he goes mid teens.
Yeah...I will defer to their expertise on this one. Especially since Poles and Cunningham were both offensive lineman. They would know better than I would.

My guess is that's why Jenkins is the OG on the team right now. I do like PS though, dude is a stud.
The way to close the debate about Skoronski’s short arms is draft Paris Johnson (6-6 with 36-inch arms). RT problem solved.
I'll give you one very good reason to not draft Johnson, at 9, 15, 25. He's a LT and is going to want to play, or at least compete at LT. If Poles and the coaches tell him he's the RT he's not going to deal well with it.
MP has a point, you don't draft RT's in the top 10. PJ is going to know that, and he's going to force the issue.
That being said I want that stud on the Bears roster, so if it means moving Jones to RT I'm all for it.

Jenkins also wanted to play LT but adapted to RG. Johnson will do the same.
Bears will interview him on this before they draft him. If they see this as a problem, then take Broderick Jones. His length is almost as good (6-5 with 35-inch arms). I like both these guys better than Skoronski at RT.
Another plus with Johnson is that he can play LT if Brax gets injured.

Jenkins wanted a shot to compete at LT w/another regime. Completely different.
If Paris gets drafted at 9, Brax is playing RT b/c he will get a shot to compete and he will will handedly. I don't think Poles is interested in that

The Jonah Williams thing today only reinforces the point.
For those of you who haven't caught up yet, JW is/was the Bengals LT. Drafted upper-1st round to play LT protecting Burrow. From what I've read, he has had some injury challenges and inconsistent play and is currently on his 5th yr option (~$12m cap hit) for 2023. Bengals fans seem to think he would be better at RT and Bengals brass obviously agrees as they just signed OBrown to play LT.
So JW is pissed he's being replaced or switched and he's asking for a trade. Which is exactly what OB did a few years in Baltimore (demanding to play LT or trade me to someone who will). This "problem" comes up not infrequently--OTs drafted high expect and demand to play LT >> RT cuz LT tends to pay way better.
Bottom line: if you draft Paris Johnson or Broderick Jones at #9, they are probably gonna expect to play LT and be developed there for a bigger payday down the road. I can't say for sure, but that's the tendency. Teams simply don't draft RTs in the top-15; they draft LTs if they are going tackle.
So if you really want a true RT, consider those expectations in advance so you don't end up with a pissed off player who's demanding a trade (as almost happened with Jenkins last year). RT's tend to get draft no higher than the late-1st.

Well, your point was that Jenkins was not happy about getting moved but still adapted. Even if Johnson doesn’t want to move, he can also adapt to the change.
Don’t assume that Brax can’t hold down his position. If, as expected, he does a lot of off-season weight lifting to add lower body strength, he’s going to handle bull rushes a lot better. That was his main improvement needed. He also has the advantage of a year’s NFL experience. Don’t sell him short.

IIRC, Jenkins wanted to play RT as well (and generally RT pays more than Guard). They tried him there and he didn't look good. There was a standoff before he moved to RG and started to hit his stride.
So Bears brass better get their shit together here with the OTs. Do they love Braxton enough at LT that no way they're moving him? If they are open to switching him, is he gonna go along or grumble?

Big difference between a 2nd rd player who's body type is OG and a top 10 player who's body is perfect for it. It's not the same. And no I'll wait to see Braxton actually prove he's equal to a top 10 pick, but my guess is the team won't put him in that position.

Screw that.Bears don’t have a late first round spot, and by #54 all these guys will be gone and we will go another year with the RT problem. Poles decided not to take a RT in FA, so now we have to get one of these guys. Bears can interview them and take their attitude into account.
