He has injuries and sometimes you wonder where he is on the field because he does not show up. He is not a force like Marshall who ALWAYS shows up and performs. But at the same time, I'm not sure we can not sign him. He is the best we have and he is damned good if not even great when he is on. He is not on all the time, so our choice is to try and stick to our guns and pay him less to say that we won;t get the full year out of him and let another team that is willing to pay him for a full year come in and swoop him up. There will not be a shortage of takers.
It may not end up being the best deal financially in terms of pay for production, but who do we realistically have a chance to get that would be better for less money? I think you take a big swallow and do it. I really don't think that there are too many good alternatives and we need him.
I am no expert but I have said all along another factor to watch is whether AJ really wants to come back. That will be pivotal. Of course the Bears can FT him again.
He's losing money cuz his stats aren't eye-popping - but the talent is undeniable . I suspect someone will give him a top dollar offer though and it's questionable whether the Bears will try to match it ( or if he even wants to stay here ). It takes 2 to tango .

He absolutely WILL get paid. We will have first shot at him. It's up to us what we do.

I've never seen any strong indications that he doesn't want to play in Chicago but then I do think whatever decision they make regarding Cutler may enter into it as well. Keeping them together is good for both of their careers but if Cutler is gone and AJ knows he'll get paid top dollar wherever he goes IMHO there's less incentive for him to not become a FA.
I really don't know that the Bears will tag him a second time unless it's simply to protect themselves and give them more time to negotiate and/or work out a trade. The bottom line is at least for 2017 we'd have a much better offense with both than without them. That's my take on it.

I think we use him much differently than we did Marshall. Meredith is really more the guy to replace Marshall and the kind of stuff he did. AJ is more of a big play guy but that only happens when he and Cutler begin to connect often.
As I posted to malaga if we keep one we might as well keep the other because it's their connection that makes AJ what he is and AJ is a guy who can help Cutler to win more often. Take one from the other and it's a lesser deal for both and the team.

His stats aren't eye popping because Hoyer couldn't use him like Cutler can. As Forrest Gump would say they go together like peas and carrots and one without the other is not as great as both together. Let's see what happens now if both can stay healthy for 8 more games.

Yup, agree. Hoyer doesn't have the rocket arm strength to deliver the ball downfield to AJ in jump ball fashion like Cutler does.

+1 I may be crazy, but I'm thinking the second half of this season could be fun to watch if we can just stay relatively healthy. Man, we're due for some good luck injury-wise. If that happens, the 2nd half of this season could be 180-degrees opposite of the painful 1st half of the season.
And maybe that's not completely crazy thinking when you consider how many young and new players were thrown into the mix this season. We could see significant improvement moving forward now. Even Loggains may show some improvement after having 8 games under his belt as the new OC. Cutler does seem to like Loggains, so maybe we will see some good stuff with these too working together this second half of the season. I'm actually excited about the Bears again. LOL, but I'm an eternal "glass half full" optimist. Crazy old coot who loves the Bears :-)
