Starting a rookie QB is rarely a good idea for a bad team and there's a lot of history to back that up.
Sure it might be but in today's NFL you don't need 3-4 years to put a new QB into the game.
Wentz and Dak are both playing at great levels.
Let's copy the Cowboys way. If we build up a respectable O-line that can protect our new QB he should be able to flourish in our team. We seem to already have a great RB in Howard and could use that extra cap space to resign Jeffery and also get a few big name FAs like Eric Berry here.
We shouldn't be afraid to move on from Cutler. He isn't the future here.
You're right, Wentz are Dak are playing well this year but there are some pretty big differences between the Bears and those two teams. Dak would not be doing very well on many other teams and most likely Wentz wouldn't either. Wentz isn't really tearing it up lately if you've been watching.
Copy the Cowboys? They got a nobody QB would gradually got a chance to earn the job. Then they built up the OL with an overachieving QB. Then they drafted a QB they thought could back up Romo but got forced into action because of injury. Dak fell into a perfect situation with a team that had a great OL, improving D and the best RB in the draft.
I'm sorry but that's pathetic writing. Poor excuses overall. It's pretty damn simple, you keep him and draft a QB or you trade him for something of decent value. Starting Hoyer or a rookie QB next year is not going to get the team any closer to the playoffs.
Looks like they may have a future writing for USA Today Sports!

and starting Cutler is? You do know Cutler only has 1 playoff appearance right?
Neither a rookie or Cutler will make this team closer to the playoffs. With a rookie we get progress and development while with Cutler we get 16+ in wasted cap space that could go to signing better FAs that could help bring us closer to the playoffs.
Dude, I'm no Cutler apologist but that was a hit piece written by a know-nothing hack.
"Few quarterbacks have been as polarizing in Cutler, both in Chicago and around the league. No one denies his physical talent, but his head and heart are a different story. He’s not coachable. He can be reckless. He loses focus, often at the most inopportune of times. He’s soft. He’s not a franchise quarterback."
Out of all the criticism Cutler gets, this is the one I disagree with the most. Would love to see how the guy that wrote that copes with the beatings Cutler has taken over this career.
yeah. One thing Cutler is not is soft. He is tough as nails. I can't say if he loses focus or not. I do know that he is not as careful with the ball as he should be and he makes bad decisions at the wrong times. I'll even buy he is not a leader. But he is soft? No credibility after that.
Nancy Armour of USA Today Sports said it perfectly in an article about Cutler.

So who is this Nancy Armour anyway? Let's do some research...

Just poster who thinks that the QB regardless of who it might be is the reason for the Bears failures when it fact it's very clear that the Offense has for many years never been fully able to back up any QB. Good O lines make average QB's look great bad O lines make good QB's look bad. If you don't believe me check out the Viking and Cowboys.

IGNORE
That is patently untrue. I had nothing to do with writing that piece.

I only trade him if we get something great in return #1-#45 Overall pick or if we have a better Option. We don't Need that Cap Space as badly as other Teams, we could Keep him as a high priced backup
I can agree with both sides. Management has to wait till the end of the season now - they'll be constantly assessing the situation from now till then (as I'm sure will we with our weekly Cutler threads). Still, if Cutler has value in the trade market at the end of the season, regardless of performance, it's hard to imagine the front office won't take it.

If we are going to be evaluating Cutler on a weekly basis, we are going to need some sort of scientific assessment like a pout meter or some other measuring stick.
