Did he hold out for more or less money? He sat a full year losing 14 mil, to make more then 14 mil aav? Did he make more then 14 mil aav, did he ever recover that 14 mil he lost? Ya it hurt him.
No...it didn't. As I pointed out in my previous post, he wanted more guaranteed money and he got it. And he got it while not taking a beating for a year.
math says he was even in 3 years of making 13 mil instead of 10 he's still won't have made the money back he sat out for. He could have played for 10 mil in 1 yr, sat out that year -10, played the next year at 13(only +3) and has done that for 3 yrs, he's still in the red.
It never pays for the player to sit out. It never works out in their favor.
3 1st, 2 2nd, Roquan Smith, and as a last resort Jaylon Johnson or Eddie Jackson.
Most things are not too expensive when you're talking about a 25 year old elite QB who has 15 years of life in him.
Sorry, but he may be good in Houston, doesn't mean he will be good in Chicago especially with no OL to protect him.
In order for the Bears to get Watson, it will cost the Bears at least two 1st round picks and trust me the Bears need them badly.
This is a very very hard pass. I guess you forgot about Rick Mirer and Jay Cutler.
Also the Mack trade put this team back cause we traded away the 1st round picks for two years.
No thank you..
Houston's OL is far worse than Chicago.
Late first round picks are overrated. You're not talking about a top 10 pick. What are the chances of a day one ready blue chip player falls to #20 or heaven forbidden Pace reaches for another Trubisky type QB...
The Mack trade would of worked if we had a top 5 QB. Had Watson been on this team in 2018 we would of went to the Super Bowl...
Even without saying that. Where could you find a player of Mack's level in the draft? Those players don't come every draft. QB's are even harder to get and for a top 5 QB at 25....
You got to think long term. Chances are you're not going to get a good QB in the late round and even more so if you're in win now mode instead of rebuild mode. At that point let's try to win now with a QB that can give you the next step.

Gotta warn ya before clicking the link. Only 1 player that I saw was picked from 1-10th overall. Soooo I am thinking it is possible to get a day one player or a blue chipper at any time in the draft as the cool kids are calling it nowadays.

Ric, forgive me if I'm missing something...but I'm still not sure where you're getting your math from.
In 2017 he was franchise tagged and played making $12.2 mill. In 2018 he was tagged again and Pitt tried to sign him to a long term deal, but that deal only had $10 mill guaranteed in it and the yearly salary, so he sat out. In 2019 he signed a 5 year, $52 million dollar deal with the Jets that guaranteed him $32 mill. Whether he plays another down of football or not, $32 mill of the Jets dollars is in his bank account. $32 mill if greater than $10 mill. My math tells me he's up $22 mill. If he doesn't sit out and plays for the $10 mill...Pitt abuses him like they always did, then releases him and he doesn't sign a deal close to that in 2019. If you want to say he could have signed the tag and played for $14 mill...fine...Pitt still abuses him and he STILL doesn't sign a deal close to what he got from the Jets. For a running back, he made a smart business decision. He wanted more guaranteed money and he got it.

Our offensive line is better than Houston's. They're better at left tackle than we are...but I'd say thats probably where it ends. From guard to guard we're much better than they are and we'll see what the right tackle situation is this off season.
Also...I'm confused with this board sometimes...we need first round picks...but Pace sucks at drafting in the first round, and if we don't have a top 10 pick its worthless...but we can't trade first round picks for a bonafide stud so that we can draft a maybe...this is all perplexing to me,
Mack wasn't traded until one week before the start of the season. If Watson plays the same same game, it gets down to who "blinks first." The team will probably trade him at that point in panic that he will sit out a year to get to the team he wants (which may be the team that gives him best shot at Super Bowl even if not the most money. The more money you have, the more you start to place value on other things, except for those sorry bastards who have endless greed and waste their lives chasing one more dollar.
Next year Watson will be the starter for the Houston Texans. No matter what you hear from the media, he will be on the Texan next year. Could you imagine is the Bears finally get a good QB and let him go. No he will be tagged and if needed he will get a pay raise to keep him happy.
