The year he sat out? Yeah, he was. He was franchised tagged...which at that time was $14.5 mill because it was his second time being tagged.
You're right sorry, that just makes the idea that much worse b/c he didn't go to a team that would compete better then Pitt, and he's made less money every year since when he sat out for more.
He's not exactly a good example of a player sitting out to get what he wants. He sat out, lost 14mil + whatever fines he got, and has made less money every year since, and had to play on the Jets when he came back only recently getting to play for KC, and they won't pay him more then the 14mil either.
Again IF, and I don't believe it for one minute that it will, Watson gets traded it's going to cost the team so much in trade capital + cap hit b/c of his contract, they'll be bad until his contract is up and he'll walk in FA for the same reason he's mad in Hou. 3+ 1sts + multiple early picks + a player is going to cripple whoever gets him.
The Only way he goes cheaper is if Mia or NJ are willing to give up both day 1 picks this year that is likely equivalent to 3 first over 3 years and it's still going to take multiple day 2 and 3 picks and a player after that. And b/c of that SD/DET trade it might well end up costing 4 firsts. SD is going to be terrible for years to come their first round picks recent drafts and looking into the near future is looking Angelo and Pace like. that isn't how you build a long term roster, it's how it all goes belly up.
hou already has all the leverage. He is under a 4 yr contract, watson is doing what he is bc he has 0 and is trying to gain some leverage
He's got more leverage than you think. Yes he has a contract, but he can create a level of uncertainty around that team that could have levels of repercussions. You think if they play hardball with Watson other players won't take notice?
Cheap FA lvl vet mid level QB and that's all gone. And? Did it hurt Pitt when Bell held out? No, it hurt Bell. It's not like players were now NOT looking at playing for Pitt b/c Bell held out and the team let him sit.
The ONLY reason Hou has for trading him is to get back first round picks they don't have, and they have to be high enough to make it possible they can get a legit option to replace Watson. That means they have NJ and Mia to work with, and NJ is not going to be a place Watson wants to go if he doesn't want disfunction in the FO; and if that's the case, why would he want Chicago?
Mia is really the ONLY team that makes sense for Watson and Hou. 2 1st round picks this year, 1 very high + Tua + more picks over the next few years. Watson goes to a team where the FO isn't seen as a problem and has the cap space to take on his contract and has some good talent to boot. Look at it from Houston's standpoint not Watson's, not Chicago's. Unless the team offering you a trade gives you enough to replace Watson w/a legit rookie qb option + more, why are you trading him? B/c he's acting like a petulant child? He's still the only legit qb option you have and getting 2-3 firsts over the next few years doesn't change that unless they're top 10 picks. Mia/NJ at least offer you those top picks + another one.

What if, now hear me out, the Bears give their 1st and 2nd rounders for the next two years. Add in Nicols, Roquon, and, to seal the deal, they throw in Nick Foles.
No one on the Texans could refuse an offer like that. Blam, they could play next to Foles right out of the gate to let their rookie develop. I missed my calling. Should have been a GM.

Valid, now all you need to do is draft 2 DL, 2 ILB and a backup lvl qb, as well as still needing 2 OT's and at least 1 if not 2 WR's.
Again Watson the qb on the Bears great, same w/Mack, devils in the details though, and by adding a great player at one position, even as important as qb, you lose everywhere else in your ability to build around him. And w/that Watson contract you have no space to build around him either.
You really think he'll want to stay after struggling again for 2-3 years while struggling to field to capable OT's? Or is he as likely to want out as his FA comes up as he does now in Hou?

Nah, I'm just joking around. I think the Jets have the best shot to trade for Watson.
I know Roquan is a nice player to have, and Bilal is too. But they aren't gamebreakers. I just added Foles to the mix to screw around.
If they made the move, and got Watson, Pace would have to scheme up some way to solve those problems. I don't think he can, but thats never stopped him from taking action before

Quite frankly, I’m a little surprised by this. Most of us here (myself included) have been bitching for years how our GMs should stop spending too much in FA and trade away valuable picks because it always hurts us in the end, which it does. And now all of a sudden, some of you are willing to literally sell the farm and put ourselves in a similar position as the Rams?
There’s no way we can get Watson AND improve our OL which was AWFUL this year AND get additional receivers AND upgrade our already old defense that is in decline.
Watson would fix the QB position for the next 8-10 years for sure, but it would take several years to fix all the additional holes that were created because of the trade. The way I see it, getting him would be one step forward and two steps back. Even Watson, as great as he is, needs a decent team around him in order to succeed, otherwise he would've done it all by himself in Houston.
Pace had the opportunity to get Watson for almost nothing back in 2017. He chose not to. Time to move on and roll the dice on the next best QB available.
Successful franchises build through the draft, and we should really start doing the same.

QBs are playing in their 40's in this era of Football. That gives us 15 years to work with Watson. Even if we were to trade 3 first round picks and it took to year 5 to get a competitive team, Watson would be 30 years old and still have 10 years of life in him. That's a decade of a competitive team all for 3 first round picks, a few 2nd picks, and a LB who we have to pay $15 million for next year.
No NFL team has a perfect team but one thing pretty much all playoff teams have is a top 10 QB able to win them games.
We traded 2 first round picks for a generational pass rusher who elevated this defense in 2018 to historical high, now imagine having a generational QB who can elevated an offense to a top 5 in the NFL?
As for giving up picks, if we were to get Watson, most 1st round picks would be late first rounds in which most blue chip players would be off the board. Then take with Pace's horrible ability to draft in the 1st round and only getting one hit player in 4 years.
