The Bears would also love to land a QB, but they'll need to trade up to do it. In the meantime, they have Akiem Hicks and Eddie Goldman (who opted out before the season) under contract for multiple years, but the defensive line could use depth. Barmore finished the season strong for the Crimson Tide and he's the best defensive tackle in this draft class.
Watch Pace signed some washed-up vet like Cam Newton...
That's what happens when you're HC and GM know they're on a hot seat year.
MP, I am worried sick that Pace will make a horrific move. I'm okay if he just muffs the QB thing again - if - he doesn't mortgage our future with some fatal move with the money or throwing away yet more first round draft picks. I want Pace gone. I want him to not burn down the house before he leaves. The dude has done too much damage already. Just leave. And hey, if we have a bad season, I'm okay with that. Just no long-term damage (more than he has already done).
Broken record time here:
If Pace is on the hot seat for 2021 (or thinks he might be), yeah he's gonna do something stupid in a short-term attempt to "win now" and save his job. That's the perverse incentives that are set up when you keep people "one more year" cuz you're too cheap to clean house.
In all fairness, we don't really know if the above is the case yet. We probably won't find out the truth on the Pace/Nagy contracts for at least a year.
Like I've said here a million times, it was a binary choice on the current regime--either you clean house now or you give them 3 more years to draft a new QB and rebuild around him. Trying to cut-the-baby-in-half like Solomon only results in a dead baby.

If they think 8 are worth taking in rounds 1-3, I think it's safe to say that there are only about 3 actually worth taking at all. And not all are going to be at the top of the draft, necessarily
+1
There are a couple of QBs on that list that I'd be fine with, especially in the 2nd round. I think the one guy who I really don't like is Trask. Not even in the 2nd round. I think he is totally a Florida system QB and lacks the physical gifts to play at the NFL level. He's not Tim Tebow, but Tebow is just one example of a system guy who never had a chance being a legit franchise QB in the NFL. Trask (I think) is not what we need here.

TheRinger also has the Bears taking the DT-Christian Daremore as the 1st DT off the board. Is that an indication of the poor DT class or a blue chipper that slips due to other positions being taken earlier?
In their draft,5 QBs go in the first: (1) Lawrence (2) Fields (10) Wilson (11) Lance (32) Jones

The QBS are mocked: 1st Lawrence (Jags) 2nd Wilson (Jets) 7th Lance (Lions) 9th Jones (Broncos) 15th Fields (NE)
So if we went QB in the 1st round we'd be taking the 6th QB of the draft. Usually there are ~3 quarterbacks taken each year in the first round. Many years it's less than that. And often even THEY are busts. What we would get in return for our 1st round draft pick this year (if we drafted the 6th QB in this draft) would be garbage. It would just be flushing a 1st round draft pick down the toilet. Meantime, there WILL be studs available at #20 in the first round this year... but not at QB. If we just want a garbage QB then hey, use the 2nd round, or even the 3rd round for that. Don't waste a first round draft pick just to say you drafted a QB. That's just stupid. I don't even think Pace is that stupid.

I'm not saying draft a QB simply to draft a QB. But the logic for not taking a QB in the first because they are trash also applies to taking a QB in the second. 2nd round draft picks pan out more often than 3rd and 4th round picks across all the positions. So taking a QB in the second is throwing away a draft pick I can use on a WR or CB or S that won't be there later.
Is taking a flyer on a QB in the second worth it simply to take a QB? I'm not saying don't do it, just saying that the logic of not taking a QB in the 1st also can be applied to the second if we are assuming that all QBs outside the top 3 picked will bust. Granted, I'd rather have taken a QB in the second than Shaneen. Daniels, Whitehair, Goldman, and Kmet are recent 2nd rounders. I'd rather have them than taken a chance on a QB.
We are arguing theory here. No way to prove any of these, its all non-falsifiable argument. Newman might turn out to be our Lamar Jackson. He could also turn out to be a nobody. I guess if it comes down to throwing away a 1st or a 2nd on a QB outside the top 3-4, I'd throw away the 2nd as long as I realize that I am taking a risk with the 2nd most valuable pick I have.
Doesn't matter, Pace is going to trade our first and 2nd to move up to draft an ILB to replace DannyT anyway or worse, a RB that fits the system.

Great points. LOL, I'm just a meatball fan throwing stuff out there today :-)
