Pace will try to trade up to get a QB in the draft, but so will other teams like SF who are in win now mode. So, if the top 5 qb,s are gone before the Bears pick at #20, would Pace still draft a qb, or just go with the best FA qb he can get? Of course, he could double down and do both.
I’d hate to see us burn a bunch of cash on a FA. If we’re going to take a flyer in FA then take one on a player like Pittsburgh just did. Young, potentially good but with some issues. A strong coaching staff (assuming we have one) can hopefully coach him up. If it works that’s a win and if not, it didn’t cost us a bunch. I still believe we have to draft one...
Okay then, if the top 5 are gone, then I will take Jamie Newman.

I didn't know who he was and Googled him. He doesn't sound very good. Like a poor man's Trubisky but 100 times worse. He has good raw (extremely raw) physical attributes but the rest of his game sounds like he can't read defenses, locks on to his receivers, lacks accuracy, has limited starting experience at Wake Forrest. He sounds to me like a "training camp arm" at best. He could be a diamond in the rough I guess. But holy cow, he'd need forever development time on a solid team that knows HOW to develop QBs.

I was just saying to my pal that if he is determined to draft a QB first round come hell or high water, I think Newman is the best prospect from what's left after the top 5 are gone. On the other hand, it is hard to say what veteran QB Pace can get if the alternative is to go with virtually nobody but Foles on Day-1.

I'm hoping we go with Foles and we do poorly enough that we get a top draft pick in 2022, and our new GM and HC get to choose who we draft. It probably won't happen, but I am hoping that the top draft picks THIS year go to offensive linemen. It's a pipe dream but that's my hope. Then next season the (hopefully) new GM can draft a QB to play behind a rock solid offensive line. We have a lot of needs beyond OL and QB for sure. And there is no way the Bears are going to properly fix all of the roster talent problems in one season. My #1 worry is that Pace will further hurt the team before he's gone. And I can't believe the guy who tried to solve our QB woes with Mike Glennon, Mitchell Trubisky & Nick Foles is capable of drafting our true franchise QB this draft. I just don't see that Ryan Pace has the gears to take us anywhere good now. You look at his entire 6 years of work here and it makes you sad. It's heartbreaking. He brought us John Fox and Matt Nagy too. They are both nice guys I'm sure. But as coaches they seem clueless.
I'm just going to bide my time until 2022 and hold on to the hope the McCaskey family will care enough to move on from Ted Phillips, Pace & Nagy. I don't believe they will though. I think it's just a snake-bit franchise that after George Halas let the McCaskey family run the show, it just was never quite the same after that. After the Jim Finks built team won the '85 Super Bowl, things gradually deteriorated to the mediocre mess we see now most years. We can't even beat Green Bay anymore. We can't win our division. We sure as heck can't win playoff games. And Super Bowl wins? LOL. Not gonna happen.

----------- I don't know. I can't say I am optimistic, but my current state of mind says wait to see where we are after FA and draft. If I had to make a prediction today, I would say that Pace will try very hard to move up in the draft to get one of the top 4 QBs ,and he will nonetheless fail. If Jones or Trask are still on the board at #20, he will take them. If not, he will draft a WR to replace ARob (I want to resign him, but apparently the Bears do not, or they would have already done it). Just pray Pace doesn't draft the next Kevin White to replace him. Then, they will draft a QB in the second round (and hype us like hell about how good he is). I hope I am wrong about all this, but for now, I will just sit back and wait to see what happens next. Like you, I have been a long-suffering Bears fan for nearly my whole life, so nothing new here.
How do you guys feel about QB Jamie Newman? He could be available in the 2nd round when we pick. Looks like a lot of talent if developed properly at the NFL level. He sat out this season due to the Covid and I think that may drop him to being available to us there in the 2nd round. He'd be a gamble like Mitch due to not a lot of playing time. But there is a big difference between Mitch being #2 overall pick of the draft and costing us 4 draft picks, versus Jaime Newman who would be a second round QB. I'd take him over some of these names being thrown around for the Bears (like Kyle Trask).

Except I'm not sure they are on the hot seat. They should be, but I wouldn't be surprised if they get 2 more years. Halas Hall loves Pace and Pace loves Nagy so......
Looks like it might be a bumpy and scary as all hell ride into next season LMAO!!
Watch Pace signed some washed-up vet like Cam Newton...
That's what happens when you're HC and GM know they're on a hot seat year.
MP, I am worried sick that Pace will make a horrific move. I'm okay if he just muffs the QB thing again - if - he doesn't mortgage our future with some fatal move with the money or throwing away yet more first round draft picks. I want Pace gone. I want him to not burn down the house before he leaves. The dude has done too much damage already. Just leave. And hey, if we have a bad season, I'm okay with that. Just no long-term damage (more than he has already done).
