If Cutler can finish well and keep his TOs down, that's exactly what I hope they do, especially if the team ends up picking lower than we thought it would. Hate to see us making the mistake of reaching for a QB cuz we NEED one and then throwing a rookie into the fire too soon.
IMHO you don't just release a vet QB with his experience and talent. If you decide to move on from him you do it via trade. The Vikings paid a 1st and a 3rd or 4th for Bradford so to say Cutler isn't worth a high pick or two makes no sense to me. Yeah, Bradford is younger but he's also less talented by a long shot.
Second, unless you plan on continuing to remain a second division team you don't part ways with a QB you can win with and have won with until you have the shiny new one at least parked in your garage. We don't. No one needs a HOF QB to win with but every team needs one that's at least competent and can run a full offense.
But again. My purpose in posting this thread was less to make an argument about his staying or going than it was to point out how biased and wrong the media has often been about him. It's been pretty brutal at times. The media reports it, the sheeple believe it, and pretty soon myth becomes their reality.
The ironic thing is the media flip flops on him all the time as the headline of that article prove. Two weeks ago he was done in Chicago because Fox told friends he was and this week it's "not so fast. Like Cutler said himself it's been going on like this for over 4 years now so he doesn't give it much thought.
So if it happens it happens and if it doesn't it doesn't. But if it does then it should be simply because he isn't getting the job done not because of some bullshit out his pouty face or his teammates not respecting him or playing hard for him. That's the kind of crap that pisses me off because none of it is true.
given that Cutler is older and it would be a non-desperate situation, I can't see him being worth more than a 2nd. Maybe I'm wrong.
The point I was trying to make is that it would be nice of the Bears didn't find them self in the position of HAVING to draft a qb in the high 1st and start him immediately. I'd like to get one in the late 1st or 2nd and not rush him onto the field until he's ready. Cutler's contract is very affordable next year.
