We still have 4+ weeks until the draft and things will shift a dozen times between now and then. Let's have a "Draft Prediction thread" in 4 weeks and we can all make our final guesses. We will probably ALL be wrong.
Well, David, it appears things are a changin'. A month or two ago, Mond was pegged as a Day 3 pick by mock drafts/draft "experts". He seems to be steadily climbing up the ranks since. It appears now that he's a surefire Day 2 selection at minimum and may even sneak into the 1st.
We will see if this momentum continues or regresses. I will say this--at least the early draft will be interesting to watch as a Bears fan this year.
I really have no idea at this point where Pace will go.

I really have no idea at this point where Pace will go. ———. Yeah, his performance in Senior Bowl and MVP award got their attention. I still want Bateman in first round — I watched his pro day today on NFL Network. He has 4.39 speed and is a GREAT route runner. I tell you, he is a clone of A-Rob but faster. He will be All-Pro rookie. Dump Miller and play Bateman in the slot, and our receiver corps will be damn good. This probably means we do not get Mond, but I will risk it.

Wow, you really have a man-crush on this Bateman guy!
Ever think you might be overselling him a little? ALL-PRO as a ROOKIE is very very rare. He should be a top-5 pick if that were the case. Just sayin'....
I'm warming up to Mond for sure but still far from convinced Bateman would be a good choice at #20.

Don’t take my word for it on Bateman. Trust your own eyes. Here is his pro day clip…
Fast forward to 1:33 and see how quick and precise he is on his route running. Phenomenal. Now picture him as the Bears slot receiver along with A-Rob on the outside. Then we have Mooney and his speed on the other side to balance it. Give Dalton this group and a bit of upgrade in the OL, and he can move the ball down the field with Montgomery running and a ball control passing game. Can you see it?
If Bateman ends up on a good team with a good QB, he is going to be All-Pro. I have seen some mocks where the freakin’ Packers get him! That would be an absolute nightmare for Bears fans. Imagine him with Adams. And he is only 21 years old, so we would regret this draft for a long time.
The problem is, he and Mond will both be gone by the time Bears draft in the second round. So Pace is going to have to choose.
So, I have seen some mocks where Bears take Toney at 20. I can see why Nagy might like him. In a way, he replaces both Miller and Patterson. He would mostly play slot but can also line up as RB. He has speed and very hard to tackle in open field, so would be a good kick returner. I prefer Bateman, but Toney is a good fit for Nagy scheme — throw a short pass and depend on YAC to get the first down. That is a staple in Nagy’s offense.

Bears definitely need more speed and I would agree definitely should draft a speed WR SOMEWHERE in this draft. I'm not for spending a 1st on one since there will be good, fast slot guys (i.e. Darden of North Texas) available into the 3rd and probably even later. Remember we got Mooney in the 5th last year. I think we have more important and more fundamental needs to address earlier in the draft.
Putting all that aside, you are right David about Nagy's offense and it does require spend and YAC. Bears have lacked speed for years no question and they have also lacked the type of QB who can optimize YAC if we did have speed.
Asking Trubisky to "throw someone open" or place the pass in optimal position for a moving receiver to catch-and-run was like asking a toddler to solve an algebraic equation. Trubisky went for games on end without being able to hit a single 15+ yard pass that wasn't a stop route. He was abysmally bad with accuracy to moving targets. I even saw him miss short slant passes over and over.
In summary, speed or no speed, Trubisky was an awful QB in terms of picking up YAC.
I just saw an interesting mock where Bears traded up from 20 to 18 to get Jones. This is to get ahead of Washington who are also hungry for a QB. He then has Washington taking Bateman at 19. He says Bateman is the most surefire, can’t miss WR In this draft class other than Chase.

Antonio Brown still on the market and a deal with the Bucs seems unlikely. Would anyone take a 1 year flier at the right price? I doubt it, just asking.
