As much as our O sucked last year, it’s interesting that we’re losing coaches to other teams and they’re being bumped up as well. Could it be that they're tired of the smartest guy in the room HC or they see a sinking ship and they want off? Shows we had some coaching talent but it wasn’t utilized properly.
Here is the problem. 1 he would never be traded by KC, it's all waxing poetic. 2) Look what happened to the Bears when they traded away multiple firsts for Tru and Mack, their team quickly aged, their cap quickly swelled and they have limited young talent on the roster to replace those aging. 3) If Houston is wanting 3 firsts 3 2nds and a player, Mahomes is worth more then just 5 firsts, you would likely need to throw in a few 2nd's and a player to boot.
You trade 5 firsts that 5 years you have to make up those losses w/expensive FA's, the cap is maxed and that isn't even accounting for the 2nd's you would have lost also and the player. You're team is forced to field a team full of 3rd-UDFA talent around an aging team and the team is struggling. By the time they do recover Mahomes leaves via FA b/c the team is a disaster. You've traded everything away and you end up w/nothing.
You cannot sacrifice your future like that. You can try and rationalize it by saying "well the gm cannot pick players in the first anyways" but that's just rationalizing, and it's poor to boot. You need to take chances on those young guys and hope a few hit and the others can at least contribute bc it keeps your cap in tact. And this is the problem w/having a coach/GM on a hotseat, they cannot try and plan longterm and make healthy long term decisions. 670 this AM pointed out that the only people claiming these guys are even in win now/hot seat are the media and fans. The Owner/President did not make it sound like that was the case, and it might well be that they aren't, at least they haven't been told, so that they don't make those short term decisions.
As for Jones, even a few weeks ago I would have agreed he's not likely to go in rd 1, but in reality there are to many teams that need a qb in the back half of the draft(DC, Chi, Colts, + more) that one is likely going to reach and grab him. He looked to good in the college playoffs, and he's going to continue to look good in the college all star games and in the combine; at least compared to the other qb's that won't be taken in the 1st. The 2nd and 3rd rounds are full of yikes. The first isn't exactly full of sure things either; he might well rocket up the draft boards to be taken well out of reach of the Bears.
+1,000
That's how I see it too. The Bears could easily go from a mediocre team to a truly bad team. Pace could end up destroying the Bears future for years to come. That's not hyperbole.
--------- Yes, he "could". On the other hand, he may do a bold deal that works great. The fact is, we don't know. Let's just take a deep breath and wait to see where we are after FA and the draft. I am sure he realizes that just bumbling along with status quo and showing no real progress in 2021 is the formula to get himself fired. I infer that is what you prefer, but is not going to happen IMO.

Or...simply they are good at their jobs (8 games over .500 with Mitch at QB), other teams saw it, and like everyone else they will take a promotion when offered.

That is what I did back in my working days when I knew that my company was about to be sold and I would be replaced by their guy who had my job in their company. Happens all the time in the business world. Why other teams are eager to hire Bears assistant coaches given our record the last couple years is the more interesting question. They must assume that these coaches were being heard by Nagy.

I'm just amused with the assumption that everything points negatively back at Nagy rather than going with the easier "They are good at their jobs and the NFL recognizes it." Maybe, just maybe, they are good coaches and were offered promotions into higher positions. Ragone didn't trade QB coach for QB coach, he traded QB coach for OC...and Rogers? Yeah, his leaving means he's deserting a sinking ship because we all know its better to stay a DL-coach than take a DC position. They got promotions and pay raises...who would blame them for taking new positions?

That too. What gets me is the thought that Nagy is a great coach and Mitch is a bust. Granted, could Mitch have been better - yes indeed. But we’re giving up on a QB 8 games over 500 and has taken us to the playoffs twice.

Everyone will probably be gone after this season anyway. They were very fortunate to further their careers - promotions and pay raises - before the Bears fold up the Pace/Nagy tent and a new regime comes into town in 2022.
