That's the frustrating thing about Pace, isn't it?
He's had some really good finds on defense but way too many misses on offense.
I agree, he's had some really good draft picks in the mid to later rounds. But the offense is a fail. Even Angelo drafted Hall of Fame talent on defense. I just don't see Pace doing anything better than Angelo. In fact, until we have a Super Bowl appearance and multiple divisional championships - he hasn't done as well as Angelo.

For sure , 5th round and up hes drafted almost equally O to D yet waaay more hits on defense.
But I am still more optimistic on Pace than Nagy.
Pace, his first three drafts on offense: Kevin White (bust/injury), Grasu (bust), Langford (bust), Whitehair (good), Howard (good), Mitch (bust), Shaheen (worst bust), Cohen (good) Morgan (bust).
Pace his first three drafts on defense: Goldman (good), Amos (good), Floyd (decent), Bullard (bust), Kwit (good), Bush (decent), Hall (bust), Jackson (good)
Pace his last three drafts on offense: Daniels (good), Miller (decent?), Monty (good?), Ridley (decent?), Kmet (good imo) Mooney (good)
Pace his last three drafts on defense: Roquan (good), Iggy (idk), Nichols (good), JJ (good) and Gipson/Vildor I don't know/too early.
His first three years he had 16 picks 5th and up and his last three drafts he had 12 picks 5th and up.
He seems to be improving his hit rate and going after less risky guys however my biggest gripe is he doesn't have enough ammo to make a difference. You need to be perfect when you dont have as many picks and no one is perfect, not even the best.
I like Pace overall and I think if he'd accumulate more picks he could have some really solid drafts. As I said, I really think hes been a lot better lately and I'm not sold on him being a bust GM. We all talked about there being a learning curve when we made him our GM because of how young he is and I think its undeniable there has been improvement. Those early misses hurt but hes been much more solid lately. Personally I'm excited about the upcoming draft and having some compensatory picks and more or less a full stable of draft picks.

That's a great point. I agree. If you give away your draft picks, that catches up with you and bad things can happen. Misses become more serious because you can't afford misses.

probably put Miller as eh and Ridley as idk and Kmet idk also. Ridley cannot find the field, Kmet can but he normally isn't part of the gameplan; which is par for rookie TE's.
Mitch is definitely a bust, and imo the key to that is not knowing your HC/OC as you draft a qb. Think I was listening to some national analysis and they were pointing out that most qb's are system qb's. If you don't know your system, how do you draft your qb? I think you could say that no matter which one they drafted would end up at some level well below where they are in HOU/KC b/c Chicago drafted their qb w/out knowing what they wanted out of him.
For not having a first round pick, the Bears did themselves good having 2 rookies in the top 25(as of Nov 11), sorry if already posted.
Johnson 15th, Mooney 24th. That's a 2nd and 5th round pick showing they have legit day 1 skills, especially Mooney. The author of said he sees some Desean Jackson in him, that's a hell of a comp for a late round rookie.

Very preliminary of course but Kmet looks to have some real potential too. Dude has hands and wheels, just needs to learn the finer points.
If Ryan Pace had drafted like this in 2015-2017, we wouldn't be talking about a 6 game losing streak meltdown and yet another lost season.

Pace was learning on the job, the team knew that, the fans knew that, and we all knew the team was going to be shit for at least 2 years after he got the job anyways. 2016 he got Whitehair, Nkwit, Bush DHC and Howard 2 starters and 3 role players in 9 picks. 2017 got 2 starters out of 5 picks. really all you can expect out of a draft w/5 picks. He did a fine job in 2016 and 2017.
You don't need to just hit early, or late. You just need to hit. He's done that. He wiffed on qb, name the teams that haven't that pick top 5.
Here is a list of qb's taken in the top 5 picks from 2000-2018(allowing 3 years of growth the norm expectations for a qb)
1 CLE Baker Mayfield 3 NYJ Sam Darnold 2 CHI Mitchell Trubisky 1 LAR Jared Goff 2 PHI Carson Wentz 1 TAM Jameis Winston 2 TEN Marcus Mariota 3 JAX Blake Bortles 1 IND Andrew Luck 2 WAS Robert Griffin III 1 CAR Cam Newton 1 STL Sam Bradford 1 DET Matthew Stafford 5 NYJ Mark Sanchez 3 ATL Matt Ryan 1 OAK JaMarcus Russell 3 TEN Vince Young 1 SFO Alex Smith 1 SDG Eli Manning 4 NYG Philip Rivers 1 CIN Carson Palmer 1 HOU David Carr 3 DET Joey Harrington 1 ATL Michael Vick
12 busts
7 just guys 5 guys that got their team to a SB
Basically you have a 50-50 shot getting a qb that can actually help your team if you are picking a qb in the top 5, and about a 1 and 5 of a qb that will actually get you to the SB. I'm betting the #'s are similar for non qb's also, if you are picking top 5 chances are you are such a bad team that it wouldn't have mattered who you picked they would struggle. Even a great one like Luck couldn't fix his team, and they were so bad he was forced into retirement 6 years later.
You need to rethink your theories on the draft and how useful top picks are, they aren't much better guarantees for any team good or bad and there is a strong shot you are going to pick the wrong player top 10 or bottom 10. The draft is about getting a few starters and a few backups, and after the draft it really doesn't matter where you got them from.
Pace has been better then he's been given credit for.
