What's The Deal With Brian Hoyer?................

Here's where we probably concur most on the Bears QB situation.  Far too many teams, the Bears included, seem to operate on this "theory" when in operation it's failed them more times than it's succeeded.  In fact if not for Josh McCown's miracle 5 career resurrecting games a few years ago when Cutler was out all of them have been miserable failures and the list is lengthy.

You want to feel like your backup has at least a 50/50 chance of winning half or more of his starts for you or holding a lead in a game you're ahead in if your starter goes down.  "In theory" an experienced vet should be more capable of doing that.  It doesn't always work out that way but the NFL is so scripted at times and bent and twisted around a kind of "we've always done it this way" kind or operating system that even when it fails to work they still keep doing it.

I though the Hoyer signing was a good move because I saw another Josh McCown type possibility but if this is the best he can bring then hell, keep Fales and Shaw and gamble on one of them doing better if for no other reason than they're less predictable, especially Shaw.  If the #2 guy is only gonna screw up anyway I'd rather the younger players with upside got the reps and maybe we eventually get lucky with one of them.

Not pessimistic, just realistic.  Look at our W-L record without Jay over the last 2 or 3 years.  Expand that out to a 6+ game stretch.  If we were to lose Jay for 8 games this year, our record would likely be 2-6 at the very best during that stretch, maybe as bad as 0-8.
