Well...he had one of the greatest running backs to ever play the game to take pressure of the passing game and a competent o-line. When has Jay ever had that?
I would like to see them draft a qb too...and apparently we're gonna get our wish it seems. I would have also liked to have seen them protect Jay a little more than they did too though.
Teddy only had that for 1 season though and that was 2015.
Cutler also had a fall back option with Forte.
Ok...and in that second season when he had AP he wasn't any better than he was as a rookie. And Forte is not AP, nor was the Bears o-line as good as the Vikings o-line.

I guess the good thing about Bridgewater is he is young and still has a lot of upside. As for Monday Night, I do hope Cutler can grip the ball and shreds the Vikings through the air; at a minimum I hope he can get the damn ball to Jeffery and Alshon finally has a game we all envisioned him having this season!
I agree with that, it was done intentionally. Either to motivate Cutler or Hoyer. Now I guess the Bears ride the 'can they find a starting qb' rollercoaster again.
Man the gift they had of not having to draft a qb every few years and wasted it.
Cutler overstayed his welcome here. Sure the Bears benifited from having a QB being stable for years but let's be honest for a second. Looking at Cutler's stats why has he been here for so long? He has only had 1 year of being above a 90 with QBR. That was with Gase and his extremely limited plays.
We all know Cutler has talent. No one is denying that. He has elite arm strength but his decision making is below average QB play. How many of the QBs picked in the past few years has similar stats or better stats than Cutler?
Luck Newton Prescott Wilson Wentz Winston Mariota Carr Bridgewater
This is a team who hasn't drafted a QB in 1-3 rounds since Kyle Orton in 2005. This is a team who skipped out on Dak while having 3 fourth round picks. This is a team that believes getting vet backups is better than drafting their backups.
9 QBs since 2011 I listed are starters that are either on Cutlers level or above him.
You ain't going to hit on a QB if you never draft one. I'm not saying draft one in the first every year, but at least try to draft a QB every other year in the first 3 rounds.
Agree w/most of this. But it was actually Rex, Orton was drafted in the 4th round. So it's been 13 years, really 14 come the next draft.
How many HC's and OC's have been done w/Cutler now? The list is growing. Like you said the guy is a superior talent, but above the shoulders is more then enough to neutralize that talented arm.
Who did Bridgewater have to throw too? I believe if you gave him the weapons Cutler has had he do just as good if not better.
To be fair I said around Cutler's level or higher. I listed QBs who are that.
I just like to see this team start drafting QBs.

Well Cutler did have Forte; the OL hasn't been anywhere as good, but it hasn't always been garbage and imo Cutler is part of the OL's problem, his refusal to throw the ball on time, and instead waiting until the WR makes their break to get open(to late at that point) often means he's holding onto the ball to long.
It's 4 years old(trestman's first year), but the average time Cutler held onto the ball and got sacked was over 4 sec's. His average throw w/out getting sacked was under 3. There were only 4 qb's that held onto the ball that long on their average time of sack btw. This is what I'm talking about, the QB helps the OL by getting rid of the ball on time. The OC helps by not calling plays that ask the qb to hold onto the ball that long.

If Bridgewater ever plays again...his leg injury was gruesome.

I'm not trying to defend Cutler...he has his faults...but to act like it's all his fault for whats gone wrong here isn't completely accurate.
Oh it's far from all his fault. But I think the Bears OL has been better then we've talked about. if he is averaging under 3 sec's to throw and his average sack is over 4 sec's then a lot of the sacks are on him. Go down that chart and there are guys taking sacks at under 3 sec's; THAT's a bad ol.
The talent, the OC's the HC's the GM, the people above, all have played a part, but I think the OL has been scape goated a bit for the defense of Cutler(a bit).

We also have a GM who said " we're gonna be drafting QB's until we get it right " ( who has drafted ZERO since he got here ) .
So this off season is his chance , and here's what I think will happen ...
... he hasn't drafted a QB yet , so either he thought other positions were bigger 'needs' , or he's chicken to draft one . It's the 1 position that can't be sort of hidden . It's a spotlight position , and young GM's can be REALLY reluctant to draft one because they can wind up getting burned ... so it's MUCH easier to draft a G or a S and try to keep ur job . Pace seems like a play-it-safe chicken$h!t type guy to me , and he hasn't drafted one yet so I don't expect to see him have any cojones and draft a QB .
( then the guy we could have had will go on to be a HOF'er and one of the most exciting QB's of all time , and we'll have had a decent lineman , or a safety who's had a few picks during his career ) .
