With Jay Cutler presumably returning as the Chicago Bears starting quarterback, there had been questions over what this means for Cutler’s future with the team.
When Brian Hoyer suffered a broken arm in the Chicago Bears’ loss to the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, it was all but confirmed that Jay Cutler would get another chance as the Bears’ starting quarterback.
Prior to his injury on Thursday, Hoyer had taken the starting job away from Cutler. Cutler has been out since the third quarter of the Bears’ Week 2 game against the Philadelphia Eagles with a sprained right thumb. The timeline for Cutler’s injury was 2-3 weeks but Hoyer’s play allowed the Bears to be cautious. In other words, Bears’ head coach John Fox preferred Hoyer to Cutler and the injury allowed the team to mask that sentiment.
If Bleacher Report NFL Insider Jason Cole is to be believed, the Bears have already made up their mind when it comes to Cutler’s future with the team. According to Cole, the Bears plan to move on from Cutler in the off-season and the injury to Hoyer will not change that.
Ever since Cutler went down with his thumb injury, it has seemed like the end of the marriage between the two sides. The fact of that matter is that Fox likely was never fond of Cutler but the quarterback’s contract forced the team to keep him. With there no longer being any guaranteed money attached to Cutler’s contract, the Bears can and likely will part ways with the quarterback this off-season.

Strange I remember going into this Season with Fox and Co saying Cutler is our guy. That we're going to build around him. What happen? I understand this is a rumor but talk like this is starting to happen more. I believe there is truth to this and this may be Cutler's last year as a Bear. The question is who do we replace him with? 1st or 2nd round QB? Matt Barkley isn't a option. If we're going to let him go, can't we attempt to get something for him? A high 2nd round pick would be nice.
