Bears should give Jay Cutler an opportunity with improved ru

I agree. He is a better QB than Hoyer. He does turn it over more, but lately he has been protecting it better.

Hoyer is the really safe guy who can give some decent stats but doesn't have the guts to get the job done in the end. Cutler is the risky play but he has the balls to let his best players make plays. The ball needs to get down field a little more.

I think they need to run the ball even more with the success Howard is having. This will open things up downfield. Play action will work well then.

LOL with that one... and it's true.

Hoyer is a 20/20 QB. He is good inside the 20 yard lines where there is always a safe throw or dump off. But once you get inside the redzone the compression of the defense means there aren't anymore safe throws, the windows are much smaller, and you have to take chances. The same goes for at the end of games when you may need to throw something up and just trust your receivers. As our almost-coach Bruce Arians said "No risk it, no biscuit."

That being said I think people are making a little much out of Hoyer's last pass attempt. Overall he had a decent game. We shouldn't define a guy for missing an open receiver on one play. It happens, even Brady misses them sometimes. Hoyer may have thought they were bracketing Jeffrey like that as they had been doing much of the game and missed the safety rolling off of him. I certainly would need to see more footage from him to see if this was a recurring thing with him.   

My issue, as it always seems to be, is with fans and commentators getting what they asked for and then bitching about it when it doesn't work out. All I hear about Cutler is how he doesn't protect the ball enough, and he needs to only take what the defense gives him, and stop slinging it around so much. Then inevitably we have a guy play like that and people flip out about how there is no scoring and why isn't the QB pushing it down field. This is why we can't have nice things Chicago. 

This brings up Cutler's development. For so long coaches have been trying to restrain him to be more efficient and reduce the TOs, but I have to wonder if it wouldn't have been better to try push to his strengths more instead of trying to turn him into a QB he's not. Some of this is due to our woeful lines over the years of course, and some with a lack of quality WRs. You can't go big when your OL can't hold a block for more than a couple seconds and your WRs can't run correct routes. Now however we have some good WRs and the OL (minus Massie) may be starting to come together. If they can continue that against better teams the Bears should start trying to air it out more. The season is likely in the toilet right now so let's go out slinging. That would be at least more entertaining than efficiently grinding to a loss.
