To me it is not a matter of should they, but rather for how much?
And then "how much" depends on his outcome of health and *production this year.
*production meaning he should probably 1) get a TD soon this year and most importantly 2) STOP REGRESSING!!! lmao 105, 96, 70, 46....those are his #'s this year in order of week(1,2,3,4)...and yes MOTM, that means AJ sucked ass against that terrible Det defense
I don't remember Hoyer targeting him very often, but did not see the official stats
Pro-Ref has his Targets at 6, 7, 7, 5 in order of games...
Most writers have DEF rolling a safety to Jeffery at the snap, as no one is/was scared of White. If true, this has opened the middle up for Royal and given Miller space to do his thing. If Royal/Miller can keep getting open and being productive against zone or single coverage, then Jeffery should see a decrease in double teams. Cutler wasn't afraid to throw into a double coverage (see what I did there?) but Hoyer might not, hence the lower number of targets.
I know its unpopular to say but Jeffery is getting paid by someone this off season. He's going to get at least 14,000,000 if he puts up 1000 yards, which he is on pace for (assuming the regressing stops) or even just plays in 12-14 games. The TDs will come. I also know the popular/tough-guy thing is to hammer on Jeffery, so slag this post. Don't care.
Just remember, Marshall leaving led to the Bears `having` to draft White. With White on IR and with Jeffery leaving like many wish, how early do you think Pace is going to have to take a WR? 1st round? 2nd round? FA?

Is it Jeffery's fault that he's regressing or the QB's fault. The majority of targets have been going to White so far. Jeffery's targets are way down compared to what they normally are and that's hurting his stats. He's still one of the top receivers for catches down field though.
I would like to know if he's not getting the ball because he's not open, the QB isn't throwing it to him or the play calling just isn't going in his favor.
Yeah i know the word "regression" was a knee-jerk reaction LoL...His career targets per game are at 8.3/game though, so he isn't that far off from his average, he just hasn't had that 10+ target game like he gets from time to time. But like you mentioned in your last sentence, who knows why that is happening. Could be all of them.
Like against Hou, Aj's best game this year, he got all his numbers in the first three quarters and then never saw a target in the 4th LoL
There has been a common theme with Jeffery this season and it's his lack of usage in the second half. It's very confusing. I don't know if it's a change in the game plan, or lack of it, or if it's defenses making changes. I don't like it though.

With White out against the Colts, I'm thinking AJ should get a lot of work. I hope so, because I have him in fantasy football :-)

And therein lies the problem. Hoyer doesn't do downfield. At least not to our own players.

Double coverage for him opens up space for others. Those others - like Royal and Miller - put up some good numbers so far. With Howards 100+ Yard games Ds will have to look at him too. Now the D has to worry about 4 guys getting the ball and another WR is on the field too.
AJ will get open more and more the more Yards and TDs Royal/Miller/Howard get.
