Lets not get to excited about Shea, he's had a total of 7 tackles in 3 games, not exactly a world beater out there. No stuffs, no sacks, no defended passes, no ints, no fumbles nadda, just 7 takcles(4 solo). He's not looking great. Last night he had 3 tackles, 2 assists.

It's only game 3 of the season, so I agree it's too early to say much about him. Although, I don't know if you watched the game last night... he looked pretty good in their defense. Is he a major part of their team? No. But he will be an asset on their quest for another Lombardi trophy this year. Belichick is a sharp guy finding people like this. They may never be star players, yet the overall team in New England each year is built with some of these guys. Marty Bennett looked pretty good last night too. He didn't light it up either. But he helped the team (that 6 yard run was sweet). Bennett and O'Shea probably have a good shot at a ring this year. Good for them.
No I didn't watch the game, I did listen to it though in the background, heard them talk about how Bennett kept getting held or interfered with even when it wasn't flagged. Didn't hear them talk about Shea though, could have missed it. But again 2 tackles 1 assist in 4 qtrs, he's definitely not a major role player in their gameplan. Glad he's looking good in his limited play, more power to him; still glad he's not a bear b/c if his average is going to be 2-3 tackles a game, someone else can do it, and likely do it behind the LoS occasionally.
What BB does best is create a gameplan around who he has, and not what he wants to do. He did not go out there and have a rookie go and sling it everywhere. 45-50 times a game, nope about 20 throws for the rookie, you know what that also does? STops the rush, puts the pass rush completely on it's heals b/c now they are running 30-40 times. What does a hobit do? Runs 20 times allowing the Houston D to do what it does best, rush the QB; and doesn't even make it hard on them by keeping a TE and RB in to help chip, or move the pocket.
Now would he have done that w/Brady no, but Brady still wouldn't have passed 40+ times either.
THIS THIS THIS!!! Identify what you want to do and then do it. I don't like Loggains and his "well we passed so much because that is what the DEF gave us. " Of course Texans wanted the Bears to pass, and of course Phliiy wanted the Bears to pass, so they could pass rush. Pass blocking is a problem right now. Know wherer teams figured this out? Watching the preseason games when the OL couldn't pass block. So if the strength of the team is not pass blocking, don't pass 40 times a game. Run and Run and Run and Run some more.
Not just so they could pass rush Brasil, but b/c Cutler is a turn over machine and the NFL knows it; you want him to pass b/c he's going to either fumble or throw an int. You'll take the 1-2 scores he's going to give the Bears knowing that he'll likely negate at least 1.
W/out Forte there is no threat from this run game so the Def doesn't have to worry about it, they just shut down Cutler and the O stands still. I warned people that losing Forte was going to hurt this passing game b/c the defenses when Forte was on the field had to worry about stopping him first, and then the pass; but w/Langford and crew teams don't have to worry about anything but Cutler; and Cutler is very defensible and beatable.

It also means scheming so that a quick short passing game becomes part of your running game, and I don't mean bubble screens. STOP THROWING BUBBLE SCREENS!!! Where are the slants to Royal and Jeffery? With Jeffery's big body he can screen off defenders when he makes his cut. You need to redefine your passing game so the play goes snap-drop-throw. Not snap-drop-progressions-throw. They can't pass block for that long. Shotgun throws need to be quick too. Stack/bunch your receivers and run multiple routes out of the stack/bunch. Everything quick. A 4 yard completion is as good as a run.
Yes its more complicated than that but its also paradoxly at the same time--simple.
Every other play send White deep. I mean sprinting straight out at a dead run. Throw him the ball once early. Roll the pocket to that side of the field to mess up the pass rushers aiming point. You don't even need to connect to force the DEF to adjust. Did you see what the Bears corners did after Fuller dropped that long pass Brock threw him? They gave him a 10 yard chushion. And the Texans actaully used that--imagine that--by having Fuller run come back routes. He'd sprint for 6 yards then stop and cut back. 5 yard pick ups every time they wanted one. At that point its Hoyer and White playing catch 5 yards apart. Eventually the CBs will cheat up and guess what? BLow White past them again. Like Fuller did.
Now use your option reads with the running game. Use the 2 TEs, put Paulsen to the run side and Miller to the other (since Miller can't block anyway). Have Hoyer and Miller read the DE/LB on Miller's side. If the DE/LB crashes down the LOS, Hoyer keeps the ball bootlegs while Miller slips into the flat and catches a 4-5 yard gain--good as a running play. If the DE/LB sticks with Miller there is a cut back lane for the RB.
What you don't do? Keep trying the same things over and over and over that don't work.
Pace is looking more and more foolish for stating there weren't any qb's worth taking in this draft also.
Can't really agree at the Fox shot LoL maybe time will prove that statement wrong, but i won't hold my breathe.
Goff couldn't beat out the undrafted journeyman Keenum Lynch couldn't beat out the 2 year 7th rounder Siemian Hankenberg hasn't played and is currently sitting 4th on the depth chart if NFL.com is correct Kessler sits behind RG3 and McCown Cook is 3rd string
Wentz was never an option Brissett might be ok, but let's put him on another team then talk LoL Dak is doing ok, but 0 TD's in two games

I think its a bit of everything. We still lack talent, and we're banged up. Hard to win games when you lose 5 starters/contributors to injury. I will say that watching this team is still more enjoyable than watching the team 2 years ago was...thats for sure.
The QB's in this draft were mostly not first year starters that needed time to develop. Even the ones in the first round. But that doesn't mean their ceilings are low, just that's what the college game is forcing to happen in the pro draft now.
I wouldn't hold to much against Cook/Lynch as Siemian has looked good. Hack was never a 1st year option, he needs to learn the game, and forget the horror story that was his OL last year.
I didn't like Kessler from the get go.
Goff is the only disappointment; w/Brissett and Dak being guys that were both high values for the rounds they were taken, and that's not hindsight being 20/20. Dak hasn't thrown for any TD's, he did run for 1, he also hasn't turned the ball over yet and has a near 63% comp rate and almost 7ypa. Not bad for a guy that wasn't supposed to play this year.
Wasn't trying to imply their ceilings were low, just that judgments like that don't come in one season, let alone 2 games....i was all for them drafting a Qb this year to ride the bench for a couple of years. Actually disappointed and confused about why they didn't.
I just don't feel it makes Pace look more foolish for those statements...right now...just realized i said Fox in my first post lol beers are settling in too good tonight. Regardless of who said it lol it is like talking about next years draft right now, or in this situation talking about a draft 3+ years down the road.
