I have yet to hear anyone clarify if running backs are subject to this rule. So many backs “lower their head” and push through a hole or to hit a defensive player once past the line of scrimmage. Will that be a penalty on the offensive player? —Justin P.
Yes. Running backs can no longer duck their heads and use the helmet as a battering ram.
Wait, you’re telling me that the NFL just came up with another stupid rule that will make the game safer and therefore more boring? Color me shocked!!
I don’t know if this is 100% Goodell or not but I think it’s shameful how they cave in to players’ demands. The league is slowly destroying this once great sport and soon all we’ll be left with are more boring plays, cheaters, divas, wife beaters and political bullshit.

Nice job NFL.
I am not sure this is driven by players. Most players don't like it. I think it is driven by management who is looking out for the player. This is really a good time for a new football league. However, the NFL is trying to cut the legs out from the XFL by coming out with their own leage a year earlier. I was not driven to watch the XFL, but seeing the NFL tactics, I am now going to be an XFL fan. I do not like companies that play like this. Make your product and service to fans be the reason why competitors fail. However, they are screwing with the product and they do not care about their fans despite their rhetoric. It is all about the $. When that happens, it is usually a bad omen.
To address the original topic. Seems like much ado about nothing. Some who are writing about how he doesn't fit because he's too slow apparently haven't watched any games where he ripped off 40-50 yard runs. Walter was no Tony Dorsett either and Howard has more yardage in his first two seasons than he did.
I guess we'll be reading a lot of trade rumors from now until the draft. Par for the course about now. Sorry I even posted the OP. It's a bunch of crap.
This whole situation is very strange. I get the speculation because usually a player doesn't do any of that unless they're leaving the team.
Some people are somewhat optimistic about trading Howard though. The thought of turning a 5th round draft pick into higher picks and replacing one of the easier positions in the NFL is enticing.
(1) despite all the arguments we had about elite RBs not being any more valuable than a very good RB when it comes to team building and (2) that according to many very good RBs can be found in the draft every single year, (3) and that Howard is a very good RB who has had issues in the passing game
everyone freaks out about trading Howard. If we truly believed what we say we do about RBs, team building, and the draft, trading Howard shouldn't raise so much angst. Would I trade Howard? Not this season, maybe after next season before he's due an extension. I wouldn't trade him for anything less than a 3rd. (I also don't think the Bears will give him a second contract.) But I won't panic when teams ask about Howard. The only reason we are freaking out that we still deep down somewhere inside believe that all the Bears need is a RB and a DEF to win Super Bowls. Personally, I think Nagy can use Howard in a way that plays to Howard's strengths and covers any weaknesses.
