What do you guys think about us drafting Minkah at #8 instead of Ward/Edmunds?
boy.... that would all just be outright speculation without knowing how each of them will do.
I believe that Minkah would be an upgrade over Amukamara, but I like Amukamara. Any position where you can upgrade is worth doing, but IMO, an upgrade at DB right now is a luxury while help at pass rush is a necessity. I'd have to go with Edmunds assuming I thought he could fill that role.
Me too
I wouldn’t hate Fitz as a pick but wouldn’t love it either. I’d prefer Nelson or a front-7 defensive player.

I wasn't high on Fitz either as a pick but NFL teams typically run nickel close to 50% of the time now. Amukamara, Fuller, Fitzpatrick, Amos, Jackson sound like a pretty nasty secondary. Also Amukamara may only have a couple of good years left, and as always players get injured. If Fitz is the real deal in a couple years you'd have a pro bowler on a rookie salary as opposed to having to shop for an overpriced FA when one of the other DBs end up elsewhere.

Thats my thing. Nickle/dime packages are becoming a norm, and to have a guy like Fitz that can move into the S or CB position depending on what is going on is a huge boon for a team. And again, you won't find talent like that in the later 1st or 2nd-7th rounds and won't normally find a guy like that in future drafts. He's a unique talent like Edumunds that you really cannot afford to pass on in a position that is key to nfl success for defenses.
From reading up on Edmunds there seems to be some concern over whether he can play outside. Some seem to think he's a middle linebacker. I love the idea of Fitzpatrick or a guy like James because you can move them around. Like what it seems we want to do offensively. You can play Fitz in the slot, out at corner or at safety. He can match up with tight ends. Same with James...only he can't line up at corner...but he can play safety and OLB as well as man up with tight ends. Just gives the defense a lot of flexibility and James lets you attack from a lot of places.

I think like Floyd that Edmunds will be a two year project before he reaches his ceiling and even then as you've posted as well is he really and edge guy or simply a guy who could play some edge?
We reached for White and for Floyd based on upside. This time I'm beginning to favor a more moderate approach and go with a sure thing. I like Nelson at #8 and I like Fitz at #8.....today. LOL

I think that's only b/c he hasn't done it though isn't it? Everything I've read said he has the speed and bend to do it. Was there something else that I was missing when I read about him?

Speedwise he's fine, but I was reading he doesn't hold up well at the point of attack and he tends to over run plays...he's a little slow to diagnose. I haven't had the chance to watch a ton of film on him so I'm going off what I've read...once I dive into the film I'll have a more informed opinion.
I was loving the idea of Edmunds, but have cooled on him a bit. I was reading somewhere (may have been on this site but don't recall) that he makes a lot of arm tackles indicating he isn't diagnosing plays well, but in college he had the athletic ability to make up for it and still make the tackle. That isn't going to fly in the NFl with bigger, faster players. So, his lack of football instincts scares me a little. Although, I am trying to keep in mind that he's really young and still developing.

Yeah...the kid will only be 20 when the season starts. He's crazy young.
