White's biggest challenge may come from Gentry or a rookie who can play ST whereas White cannot.
Isn't Inman still in the mix? Thought so.
I'd put it this way. Barring major preseason injury, meltdown, or arrest in a van full of coke and hookers:
Robinson, Gabriel, & Meredith are roster LOCKS
White & Bellamy (mostly for STs) are NEAR-LOCKS
I'm going to assume we keep 6 WRs when it's all said and done, which I believe is smart since 3 of the above were on IR last year. That leaves only 1 roster spot to battle for between Gentry, Inman, every other camp body, and/or a late round draft pick.

yep. Depends on how good and how fast he becomes good. If it is not apparent in TC that he is starting to get it, he may not make it. However, I suspect that next year will be his real problem. I don't think they will cut him this year. He is going to be paid either way and Nagy has made it a point to help him get better. This is his last shot with the Bears at least.
I'd agree that it's tough to see them giving up on him when they've carried him this far and it's not as if we're in contention just yet. He has a $5.2 mil plus cap hit and we aren't gonna get out of that. Even if we release him and someone picks him up whatever salary offset he gets won't be much.
Bellamy will probably stick for his ST work so the rest will battle for a roster spot and some snaps in the rotation. It would be nice if he finally showed some signs of life though. ARob, Meredith, and White would make a nice rotation at WR with Gabriel also in the mix.

The fact that we were able to get both ARob and Gabriel is why Inman isn't in the mix. Prior to FA that wasn't assured. Inman is still a viable NFL WR but because White is playing on guaranteed money he's assured of sticking around. We both know that so no need to be sarcastic. Take White out of the picture and it's a different story but Inman wouldn't start ahead of a healthy pairing of ARob and Meredith anyway, nor Gabriel.
We have Gentry on the roster along with the others and whoever we may add and they're all cheaper than Inman so money comes into play as well. None of the others even count against the cap. This entire setup wasn't the case two weeks ago when we debated Inman. At that time bringing him back was a viable option that we no longer need to explore. We've upgraded beyond that need.

Thanks, for some reason I thought Inman was under contract.

Guess not
Nope, never was. He was on a 1 year RFA $2.7 mil tender when we traded for him. That's one reason why he was so cheap. The fact that he's already 29 and just coming off his rookie contract and tender doesn't help him much either.
I think someone will sign him eventually but not us or at least not as long as the prognosis for ARob and Meredith is positive. He's shown more than White ever has but White has a guaranteed salary that's not goin' away and we know Pace won't give up on him 'til the last dog dies so all we can do is hope that maybe he can be at least somewhat productive.

They can't let White go BIH because they have a fortune in rods invested in him. I'm just thankful the cap isn't impacted by rods... we'd surely be over the rod cap by now.
