Nelson or Vea for me, but I actually think Vea is the perfect Pick for everybody involved. Guy stops the run and pass, fills a hole and it makes the Jobs for the OLBs much easier.
What I liked? Pretty much everything in theory. I know Sittons Cut wasn't popular but I get it. It wasn't really creating that much of a hole. It was creating 50% of a hole - 50% is the time Sitton misses with injuries. I think we'll see Kush starting with Whitehair and Long on the interior. Kush is my darkhorse for surprise to the masses - yet not that surprising. I think Pace is going to find a way to trade down with the 1st, trade up if Chubb is falling or simply take Vea at #8. He'll address OL depth with the later picks.
I think he might be somewhat of a surprise pick but not impossible.
If three QBs go 1,2,3 and Cleveland takes Barkley if Elway doesn't like any QB left at #5 then I'd guess either Chubb or Nelson would be high on his list.
If Nelson is gone and it's down to Edmunds or Vea what then? Or could either or both be gotten if we dropped back a couple of picks?
I'd just stay and take Vea. I like Edmunds so far but I've looked a bit more into the draft and give me Vea. Pace has done nothing so far with the DL and lost Unrein. At OLB he signed Lynch and can always get a guy like Houston.
I think he'll go DL, OLB, OL, ILB, WR with the picks

In this case I think a lot depends on how they view Goldman from several perspectives.
1) Is he our NT of the future? 2) Can he stay healthy? 3) Can we extend his deal at a reasonable cost? 4) Is he able to move to DE if needed?
No doubt our defense depends on him and is much better with him than without. IMHO he's one of the better NTs in the league so I have to assume we'd prefer to keep him and will look to extend him before he hits FA next spring. While none if this eliminate Vea as a prospect there are still questions that would need to be answered before we spend that high a pick on him.
I wouldn't say Pace has done nothing for the DL. Bullard was drafted to become a starter and RRH was asked to add weight in order to move from OLB to DE. In combination their 2017 stats were roughly the same as Unrein's. Unrein is decent journeyman DE but he isn't making anyone's All Pro list and Bullard and RRH have been groomed to replace him.
In Edmunds we'd be looking at a kid with Urlacher type size and versatility who Fangio could develop into a freak type LB much like Urlacher was. Like Floyd he's not strictly and edge rusher. He has the speed to play in coverage and the size to play at ILB as well. There's some risk because of his age and inexperience but his upside is huge.
One thing I keep coming back to about Vea is the % of DL snaps taken by Hicks. If I remember right, he played around 80% of all DL snaps last year.
If that keeps up we will burn out Hicks in one or two more seasons. He is a really big dude and takes a real pounding. If taking Vea could reduce Hicks' snap count down to something like 60% to 67%, would it extend his career by a couple of years?
Hitting the nail on the head here. Depth had never been so important with the way these athletes are maxing out size-strength combos. DL rotations are so key during a long season. Work in Bullard and RRH at an appropriate clip and it's just a matter of when, not if, OLs wear out.
I think a good fallback to this scenario would be to look at signing Hankins if he came cheap. 25-26 years old with upside.

Like I said, Pace hasn't done anything with the DL so far
I like that we'll get the chance to draft Nelson, Edmunds or Vea. If there won't be a rush on the QBs, Pace will get calls and the Chance to trade down. Entering the draft without big holes on the roster is key and Pace has a guy that can start on every Position. Some better and some worse.

Oh come on. Bullard and RRH aren't that bad. haha. RRH had 2 sacks in some very limited play and Bullard made some nice run stops and TFLs. I gotta think we have to at least give both a shot.
Like you I believe there's a good chance we'll have a shot at two of those three. Each fills a need we have so when a choice is made it will come down to how Pace, Nagy and Fangio evaluate those needs and who comes out on top at the top of their board. It seems to me we could hardly go wrong with any of the three.
Now that Pace is out from under the guise of working for Fox and not the other way around, and seems to no longer have money restrictions imposed on him as well, I don't believe there's another team in the NFL that has moved so quickly and so positively in a direction that resolves their problems with a coaching staff and player personnel.
How's that for a 180 degree flip from where I was last year at this same time? I never stopped being a Bears fan. I just stopped supporting the asinine way the team was being run. That's all changed now and I'm supportive of it.
