After reading through this for awhile now and thinking about it myself...
Obviously we need WRs, no one is arguing that fact. What I notice is how some are valuing what we already have and how we reload the position for next season.
So I'll start here, looking at some weak stats. (This is a list of players with their target number)
13 Kendall Wright 91 UFA
29 Tarik Cohen 71 HB/✓
15 Josh Bellamy 46 RFA
15 Dontrelle Inman 40 UFA
86 Zach Miller 35 TE
24 Jordan Howard 32 HB
88 Dion Sims 29 TE
30 Benny Cunningham 26 HB
85 Daniel Brown 20 TE/RFA
14 Deonte Thompson 18 (Gone)
12 Markus Wheaton 17 ✓{cut}
18 Tre McBride 15 (Gone)
87 Adam Shaheen 14 TE
19 Tanner Gentry 6 ✓
46 Michael Burton 4 FB
11 Kevin White 4 ✓
(81 Cameron Meredith 0 RFA)
So I think we can mostly agree the 6 biggest names at WR last year were: Wright, Cohan, Bellamy, Inman, White, and Meredith
Looking at Wright, it might be wise to keep tabs on him, but with the rumors of Wilson, that's a good trade off there.
Cohan, I listed as a pseudo WR. He isn't going anywhere, but you have to figure he's going to be huge in the pass game, possiblity in the form of a WR.
Bellamy, he's an interesting case bc of his special teams ability. He should have never, NEVER received that many targets in the passing game. The only reason he should be considered bring back is for Chris Tabor, we can't leave his cupboard empty.
Inman, Soul made some great points about him. Something everyone should think about, when did our passing game get better and when did he arrive? I'm not saying he's a number 1, but we can be a fringe #2 and a decent #3. With how deep this draft is, we have to approach In man carefully, but he should definitely be brought back for depth and competition to make sure the WR position gets filled.
Last are the names at the bottom of the target list.. the pariah and the fan favorite injured guy. Obviously we cannot rely on White to stay healthy, but with the guaranteed money and draft stock, you know he stays. Meredith, if you want Robinson coming off an injury, you have every reason to want to bring back Cam. The same arguments about poor QB play and health can be used for both. The nice thing is Cam is cheap, so you know he's back.
I'll keep Cohan out of this count, but let's look... Meredith, Wilson/FA, White, Inman, Bellamy
My next thought is, how many WRs do you keep? I guess do +1 for Kevin White Insurance. It feels like a near slam dunk that Wilson is on the squad (I'll probably be wrong now), so how many draft picks do you add, how many more FAs? Not including Wilson, I say you add two more players. If you bring in ARob, you probably draft a WR on day two and call it a day (unless you find unbelievable value late at WR).
As far as Inman, if you can grab a Lee or a Moncrief, he is expendable.
Robinson
Meredith
White
Wilson

Bellamy/Inman?
